Musical Vampirism * 1

This is a term I coined from the energy that seems to stem from listening to certain types of music. The effect that music has on psychological functioning is absolutely fascinating. There can be times when one's morale is so low or one's energy is so depleted that the individual has no inclination to do anything but sleep. However, after listening to one or two songs, at least in my experience, I feel like as if I had just ingested a heavy dose of amphetamines. Mental and physical functioning spikes and I feel like I could lift a fucking car. This thread is just to show my appreciation for music and how much it feels like a necessity in life. I almost feel as if I need it as much as food and water, like I would die without it. So, I encourage all of you, out of respect and the gratefulness you hold for music, to share those really special songs that give you that jolt of energy.

Just reading the term 'Musical Vampirism' made me assume that this was in reference to music somehow sapping us, as I feel it often feel we draw from it.
Which is clearly what this is all about...

I think music serves the same functions, both cultural and spiritual, as other forms of art.
It often serves as a reflection of ourselves and our culture and can also be used to transmit ideas and feelings, either wordlessly or with words.
I think this is a big part of why we relate to it so deeply and can imbue us with strength, etc. Or stir things deep and hidden inside ourselves.

It reminds me of something Jawn Linen Closet said about writing music, which is applicable to almost every artistic endeavor.

Definitely felt the energy flowing off of Wolfmother and Stoned Jesus. My father recognized steely dan right away. The time elapse in sleepwalkers post was beautiful. I loved the fog covered forests, I long to retire there and just slip away into the mists never to be seen again. Thanks for all your responses so far, all of them have been decent songs in my opinion.  :awethumb:

I totally know what you mean man.

At times when im making my way toward a destination listening to music in the process its like i don't actually want to get there because any convo im about to walk into most likely wont get me flowing like music does.

What i do wonder is there a universal tune that could unlock these feelings and energy flows to all people alike , as i think for the most part this is a subjective matter and different people are going to be jolting to different frequencies in relation to their prior experiences, culture and conditioning.

I don't like the word "vampirism" to describe what you're talking about since vampires are usually associated with supernatural & even negative entities. I'd rather use "transference" or something like that.


Anyway, you're totally right. Been listening to super happy chill time music lately & it greatly affects my mood for the better.

Paul Simon's album Graceland used to make me feel hollow and nostalgic, but recently its been a favorite album, especially after I watched the documentary.

It was used in order to draw an audiences attention. Because supernatural events are such controversial topics in this forum, they usually draw a larger audience, The Ol' bait and switch.
Not sure it worked too well, got a few responses though, got you here. :shrug:

I see music as a tool to bolster, brace or extend certain emotions or brain activity.
Hardly listen to 'lyrical' music anymore. But, there's tons of books on this relationship...

Learned from this otherwise forgettable book that the order of the songs also has an influence on brain activity.
