it's my first time using filters i ve used upside down lids with grains and that worked too.hell maybe ill try a bandaid next time. but its the first time ive heard of this and ive heard tyvek being used hundreds of times. but wouldn't the gas from the mycelium push air out of the jars which would also inturn create a sunction which would pull air in. i don't want too much air getting in there. the spores germinated in two days so it must be getting some kind of air. i want to get some of those filter dics from mickron i had been waiting untill customer service got back.

go read some faqs, and grologs CrabbyAss
some of the best growers on these boards use Tyvek .
polyfil does not wick . it is made of plastic .
bandaids work, but are the least breathable of all three .

No, he's making a very good point... I have to peices of material both claiming to be "tyvek", one from a breathable boiler suit that I can easily breath through, and one from a tyvek envelope that I can't breathe through. There surely must be a difference between the two?

(Sigh) both are brethable, so which do you think is a better filter .
hint, try brething through a bandaid .

I just did 20 PF jars...10 with Myco Supply's filter disk's, which are very breathable and cloth-like and probably cheaper than buying a tyvek suit.

The other 10 were done with tyvek from the post office (I only bought 10 filter disk's) and there was no noticeable difference in growth.

A little air exchange is all that is necessary. And incubating mycellium needs to have a high amount of C02 to reach it's potential.

How much air exchange do you think there is in a cow's stomach, or under a patty???

why would you use filters with pf jars?

1. Air exchange...PF jars colonize much faster with ample air exchange, for the same reasons grains do.

2. I get much less contams now that I use filters.

3. I Find it much easier to innoculate than the traditional PF tek.

Growth within 2 days...Full colonization in no more than 2 weeks. Sometimes a quick as 9 days with creeper, that strain amazes me.

Most tyvek isn't breathable.  Such as the tyvek shipping envelopes found at post offices.  Most house tyvek at home depot isn't breathable either..  Dont use that crap.

I inject right through the tyvek and use the plastic lids with a hole cut in the top. If you inject right next to the lip of the jar the lid seals the hole.

if you use a method that works, then keep with it. if it aint broke, don't fix it. or try all of them, and see which works for yourself. obviously (hehe, i'm captain obvious) they all work. and everyone has there own favorite. so acknowledge they all work, try them out, find one you like and there you go! no need to get all up in people's faces about it. (although it can be pretty funny!) plus, opinons are like assholes, everyone has one, but only shit comes from them, and nobody wants to hear them.
