Bandaids instead of Tyvek for Rye/Cracked Corn?

I see that many people use Bandaids along with Tyvek for gas exchange on Jars of Spawn. I was wondering, does anyone just use bandaids? It seems as if the cloth bandaids would allow for decent gas exchange and be pre sterile. Anyone have any experience, or know if it is neccesary to use both tyvek and bandaids in conjunction?

From the teks that I have read, the only reason they use bandaids is for covering up the inoculation holes in the tyvek.

If you are asking this question because you don't have access to tyvek, then just do like mskip does, and use polyfil.

I have used band aids with no ill effect....but I would recommend this


You can place a small piece upside down over the hole and then another bigger one over that.

Did you use bandaids or bandaids w/tyvek underneath?

I've been using bandaids w/tyvek, but am afraid that using both the air exchange is very limited, and thus slowing my jars. I wanted to try moving to just bandaids.

Anyhow, thanks for the pointers, I might try that tape as well!

no tyvek....I don't know the kind I used just grabbed some from the Med cabinet....I might have got lucky...I would use the tape
