Cracked corn & spore germination
    #1830494 - 08/19/03 05:54 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Just a quick question, i've had some problems in the past with germination of spores in cracked corn, but i was not using a polyfill lid/ or tyvek filter disk? Is this air exchange really important? Or should the spores germinate just fine. My G2G's did just fine, maybe its a moisture problem?

Thanks in advance,

Erik006

For germination alone the air exchange is not the issue, I would agree with you and say that it is a moisture problem. My recommendation is that you do a liquid mycelium culture with the spores that you have and use that to inoculate your corn.

Spores will germinate without air exchange but mycelial growth will be slowed considerably.

I'll give that a shot then, thanks. (Or maybe just do a g2g from my other cracked corn jars?)

So more air exchange? Ill go out and get some polyfill then, ive seen some really good results using that stuff.

Yes the better your air exchange for something like a quart jar the faster you colonize, and this is good for several reasons.

Liquid mycelium is my friend's personal preference, quart jar of popcron fully colonized and used as spawn in a week exactly, that's pretty good turnaround time.

G2G works great too, but I have not seen it work as well as liquid culture IM(Friend's)E.
