I was just thinking that human nature is several things. It's both survival of our genes, survival of our bodies, and survival of our cultural memes. Sometimes these are in conflict, and fight each other. Not necessarily to the point of self-destruction though.

i think ultimately, human nature is free will.

the choice to be greedy or compassionate

the choice to be a monk or a sex-fiend

that choice is out nature, the act of determining our futures.
