God if we believe in him as a concious omnipotent entity, created millions of souls into situations and enviroments in which if he is omniscient , he KNEW THEY WOULD FAIL, and then punished them to eternal torment without redemption.
A good point. It is unknowable however if God does control reality completely and we have the illusion of free will, or if He sits back and lets us act and we live with the random consequences. Either way He knows that some people will fail no matter what. How can He ask us to attain such a high and improbable goal?

Would you like to take the red pill, or the blue pill ?
I would opt for ignorant bliss(whichever pill that was).

What task is this?
To act in a responsible manner. To strive for what God wants us to strive for.

Now ya done it. You got the attention of fireworks_god.
In my humble opinion, based on my "brain-washing" as I was growing up, and based on the "brain-washing" of the Christian church, we are not "striving" for anything.
(Now, I am not about to say that the only people going to heaven, if there is such a place, are Christians.)
To go to heaven, you simply accept Jesus as your savior. There is nothing else you can "strive" for because we are sinners and guilty of all sin at all times. It is only by the grace of God that we are forgiven and able to enter into heaven.
You don't have to "strive".

I have no clue. And neither does anybody else.

Most people in the Christian church do focus more on faith than works as the path to God. They say because we are hopeless sinners, that our faith alone is what will redeem us in the eyes of God.
However, all denominations of Christianity still try to dictate what types of actions we can and can't do. They try to influence the "works" area of humanity because the "works" are what actually affect real people in this world.

Exactly. If we don't know the will of God, then we should just live our lives as we see fit, with our own meaning... probably striving to advance and keep our species going, since it seems to be the only way to carry on...
This is probably the way it is suspossed to go. Peace.

animals have choices to make too.... we've just evolved way more rediculous choices than they have, and we're confusing the fuck out of ourselves.
