How do you know your thinking is yours??
    #17754300 -

How do you know your thinking is yours? And is this question a good one? Is there authentic thinking. I am seriously trying to explore this and am not coming from a higher place than you who knows the answers though of course I have ideas.

Say that the way you think has been manipulated. HOW would you know it was, because the very way you think has been implanted into you by devious covert means. So how could you see this and then unravel the ways it's been done and see through it happening again, or now?

Take a look at this video and let me know what you T H I N K?

I haven't watched the vid yet but I can tell you that if you have sufficient practice at watching what you recognize as your consistent thought, what you call I or me, then you can easily recognize what is implanted.  I have allot of experience with this.

Having seen the vid I can't help but notice that everything that makes up a reality has this kind of angle.  I sort of went through this disillusionment break down period where everything got so overwhelming.  It seemed like I died and entered the CONSPIRACY.

I don't know it is mine. I don't know anything for certain. This body thinks. How that came about is up for debate but no conclusions.

I didn't watch the video but i've brought this up a few times here, almost every thought you have you learned from somewhere else, or even if you have a new one spring up, unlearnt, its a common phenomena that someone else on the planet will have had the same thought. Like theres a few inventions that were discovered at different parts of the world around the same time. So there is no original thought.

Well then one must ask what about the very first humans who thought and then created the culture that programs the rest.  Were their thoughts original??

Well if you think about it, looking at the universe there's probably more than one planet with humans on it so even before 'the first humans who thought' on earth there probably would've been humans who thought the same things on another planet

I don't think only humans think either, i reckon animals think too

Its a bit like a computer program i feel, like we're programmed to evolve & start having certain thoughts that develop language etc... so it can appear original when the thoughts first arise, but it could just be built within the programming of evolution

watch it its not long

Yes, so your saying that what we think cannot really BE original anyhow because we are interrelated in this human matrix where thinking doesn't really belong to anyONE individual really?

So how then can we not be manipulated then. This is why its important you watch the video or you wont get the context of the question.

There's nothing devious or covert about indoctrination, it's a natural human process. We have evolved to adapt to our environments after being born and part of that is finding a niche in the social landscape.

It's a scary question, though. A while ago I realized that nearly all of what I say is "something I heard". Well, what should I be saying? Nothing? That's the nature of the beast. Man is a conservative animal.

I don't think anyone has original thoughts, but certainly their own. We're constantly recombining information which no one really has credit to, musicians learn from their teachers and so forth - all the material being variations and adaptations of forms back to whenever. The touch of the artists hand though, their style and approach gives them a language of their own.

However you choose to word that, I think that we do often posses originality in our actions.

When it comes to innovations I look at it as an athletic endeavor, recombining information to a certain end.

i dont think the question is a good one. our language and thought is always inherited :shrug2:

something foucault said has been floating round my head lately so im gonna share it: a moral action only happens when one is in a state of freedom. which in other words means if you are given an order, unless you can fathom acting to the contrary you are not acting morally (regardless of what the action is)... or morality is only something that happens when you do not perceive yourself as OBLIGATED to it.

so a better question re brainwashing and stuff, might be what do you feel obligated to do in your life? because that might just be the unexamined stuff passed down from your parents that is limiting you in one way or another.

I FEEL disgusted at that man in the video; at the same time I FEEL that I don't care.

I THINK I don't know how much of that videos info is true.  I THINK one day people won't try so hard to manipulate each other for something like money.

I FEEL you questions don't matter.  I THINK they are intriguing and are like brain candy.  My thoughts have been shaped by my parents, people in my lives, Terrance McKenna, David Wilcock, and others.  They are also shaped by my experiences with substances.

Can someone have an original thought? I don't KNOW. I would wonder about Einstein.  He came up with the theories of relativity and gen relativity.  Where these actually original thoughts or just bio-computer computations that built upon each other?  They say Einstein was riding a bus and saw a worker on scaffolding or whatnot.  All these happenstances including his knowledge gave him the idea of his theories. So did he actually have an original thought or simply read the uninverse correctly like a hidden language that happened to unravel in front of him?  Same could be wondered about Newton and the others.

The idea of this tread goes deeper than what that video mentions.

Back in the day I signed some contract with a shady lookin' fella in a dimly lit bar somewhere in the wrong end of the city.  I was really drunk at the time so I don't rightly recall what all I agreed to, but at any rate I got a couple ounces of dank bud, a mean blowjob from the fella's sister, and now the Reptilians do all my thinking for me.  Quite relieving, really--takes all the pressure and stress away compared to when I used to have to make decisions and worry about whether or not I'd done the right thing.  Now I can just relax, kick back and enjoy the ride.

Free will is such an unnecessary burden, and just think what you can get for trading it in: a life free from dreaded responsibility, complete absolution from moral blame AND a helluva blowjob.  Now that's an offer you can't refuse.  :satansmoking:

I think that it's stupid to generalize our thoughts into either we think for ourselves or something thinks for us. I have moments where I am definitely not myself and I have moments where I feel it came from the heart and believe it was completely myself. In the end it's impossible to tell but I doubt the world would be so easy to decipher as black or white.

My procrastination habit got the better of me. I'm currently taking a quick procrastination break on the studying I already procrastinated upon in the first place to quickly check-up on the Shroomery. Basically, I'm procrastinating on procrastination about procrastination. Procrastination multiplies itself exponentially, so I'm pretty much fucked. I'll watch the video tomorrow (today) after my quiz.

Can you give me a brief rundown on how it explains that indoctrination is inherently bad? I'm kinda committed to it (between bouts of procrastination), what with being a student. :omgz:

OK, I think we have noticed that thinking is kind of shared by each other. When I was born, I learnt the lingo of my parents (maybe even when in the womb), and their influences which had influenced them influenced me, though I may later have rebelled against some of that because of being influenced by other thinking which was influenced by other thinking and so on. So it is utterly all interconnected. There is no such thing as a totally independent thinker. Do you agree?

The thing that I am calling me is my body, literally all the adjoining cells with the same original DNA and all of the neural impulses and signals that go on within these cells.

If you are able to say "I learnt this from _____"  that is an original thought.  Even saying "I thought about this today ________" is still an original thought because the word "I" is a reference point, making most thoughts original as most people are not using YOU as their reference point.

You can't use "your" to define you.

Saying me is "my body" is still not defining what is owning the body, because me and my are synonymously pointing at the same undefined thing.

Bernays took advantage of what was already in place and has been for a long time. Humans want to be a part of something bigger than themselves. Whether it be the collective fashion of the day which catches you or the newest documentary, its all the same IMO. Bernays just used that natural tendency to make himself some money by paving a road to himself. He took what was already established and paired it with his own goods. In order to stay in that larger group, now one needs to buy his goods. He hardly invented this collective movement that humans have. If you ask me its survival related. We do better in numbers and benefit in many ways. Of course there is no perfect solution to survival and it has drawbacks like what we see with a wealthy in-goup like the US.

My body is defined as all the cells that share an identical DNA to the original cell (when sperm met egg).  You say I am referencing something undefined but if we can write out our DNA sequence, it literally has a biological definition.  I am saying I am a system of adjoining cells with identical DNA and the thinking that I do can be simplified down to an on-off style of neural firing, but keeping in mind that some pathways won't work unless stimulated as a child.

If you saw the OP video you see that this character Edward Bernays utilizes techniques he learned from his uncle Sigmund Freud how to get women to smoke. By implanting ideas into their minds and creating self-images such as 'if you smoke it means you are a liberated woman'. But this is sick (and that aint good) because what is liberating being addicted to nicotine which can kill you?? So many womens thinking had been hijacked hadn't it?

Yeah, this is kind of what I'm getting at as well. "Indoctrination" usually has negative connotations but I see it as being inherently a neutral word. Teaching a child how to read and write and count is a form of indoctrination. One of our defining characteristics as a species is our ability to indoctrinate and be indoctrinated, and this is as old as the hills if not older. "My own" thinking would be completely unrecognizable to me if I was completely unindoctrinated. I would be a confused animal. What's important is for adults to be able to recognize indoctrinating techniques and to know which messages are good and which are virulent. Bernays' cigarette ads are a fine example of the latter, but values like compassion are also spread by indoctrination.

BTW I still haven't watched the video, but I've seen "Century of the Self" which outlines the psychology of public relations, from Bernays to Bush.

there is a VAST difference between learning/teaching children and adults openly, and with respect, learning that is beneficial to them, the community, other species, and the natural world, and a group of elite men deciding in secret WE, 'the masses' are irrational and using psychological techniques that manipulate us in a harmful way, as did manipulating women to smoke, as it does getting little kids to eat foods that are saturated with sugar, fat, and salt, as it does getting young people to join up and go to war etc.
If you cannot tell the difference they have got your thinking to. This is what I am trying to expose, not only for myself but for others, because they depend on us not being aware, making us think that the thinking they internalize in us is really our thinking.

Why do you think corporate executives have the power to decide that you're irrational? :wtf: They're selling a product, they hire researchers to figure out how to sell it better. I agree that consumer culture is crass and dehumanizing, that's why I don't watch TV or listen to the radio or even really go to mainstream news sites anymore. You're preaching to the choir, brother.

If you want to make a difference, get involved with community gardening or start a news blog covering local events. Change will happen on it's own and I can't tell that anyone has much say in the matter. When I look at history I see a lot of looping. My personal guess is that as soon as someone claims enough power to make an actual difference, someone finds a flaw in their plan and then needs to claim some of that power themselves to fix it. And the power struggle just gets born anew. Over and over and over and over and over again. There has been no point in history where everyone is content with what they've got

Re: How do you know your thinking is yours?? [Re: Kickle]
    #17768991 -

A lot of what you think are "your" thoughts are actually memetic viruses. The good ones I wouldn't count as not-mine just because it's in my nature to BE goodness. The identity I am referring to here is the human survival self, not the eternal self. It can get infected with all sorts of negative memes and so on.

I noticed after a particular manic episode that I developed troubling intrusive thoughts. Nothing too horrible thankfully but it was like a snarky sarcastic asshole had set up shop in my mind.

People think that intrusive thoughts are 'normal' - they are and they aren't. They are normal in that everyone gets them. They are NOT normal in that they are not good to have. Just like everyone has some kind of trauma or vitamin deficiency or evil to them, that's normal, of the norm. It's certainly not normal as in an "everything is as it should be" way.

These intrusions MUST be eliminated or your mind is not a fortress. Every intrusive thought is a hole in the hull of your sacred ship.

I found that the only way to truly kill these things off is to practice Brahmacharya - total celibacy and semen retention with the direction of the creative energy upwards into the crown chakra. Then some sacred mantras whereby one seeks refuge/protection from the omnipotent Witness.

These two things develop a powerful force field around the body which renders it impregnable to the imputations of others; when I recite the mantra I can physically feel and see the shield activating; it works beautifully during the hypnagogic states when the boogeyman really likes to come out and play.

In the Islamic tradition, these intrusive thoughts arise from a force known as the 'whisperer who withdraws'; who behaves exactly as said on the tin - it whispers into your heart and it retreats until it feels ready to cause mischief. What people do not realise is that while we can see the forces that can input energy via our ears, we are not privy to the speakers of the mind at least not with the two eyes that take in 400-800nm light; you need the third eye open to see these critters.

As a consequence of this, we go through life guarding our ears from evil and our eyes but we forget the gateway to the inner sanctum itself. This allows these forces a wide open line of attack and they are successful in destroying many lives. If you go to a mental hospital you will see many whom they have whisked away and pounded fully into submission, they are lost and totally helpless.

It's very easy to confuse these voices as your own, they use your own neural circuitry to propagate in the same way a virus uses your cellular machinery to replicate itself. These voices arise for instance when you must choose an addictive choice vs a truly wholesome choice. You get people with alcohol, gambling, sex, OCD, anger, all sorts of addictions. All of these are mediated by the submission of one's sovereignty to these subtle whispers.

There is in fact a psychotherapeutic technique targeted directly at these intrusions: it is called Addictive Voice Recognition Therapy (AVRT). The addictive voice takes its seat in the primal hindbrain, it is of course loving of the base desires, abiding and revelling therein. I have found that it is crucial to abstain from swearing and anger in defeating this. Other things that must be incinerated are jealousy, envy, sloth, greed and lust, all of which are tools for intrusive thoughts to ferment by.

The actual whisper is so minor to be nothing more than a whisper. It is then your mind that turns this whisper into an explosion and at that point you have submitted to it. Anyone struggling with an addiction may understand this rather intimately. There is a several second delay between which the whisper is planted, and when it reaches the neocortex and becomes a voice of its own. By then, you have submitted to it.

One must destroy it at the gate, at the very point of whispering itself, using the brain's truly low-level "Assembler" type machine code itself. If you are trying to defeat these thoughts using English or your maiden tongue, forget about it. It has grown too large to even bother; by the time the auditory cortex synthesises it into a high level language it has permeated the entire nervous system like a wildfire. The origin of these thoughts is in the heart, where it travels upward through the brain stem into the amygdala, and downward penetrating the gut neurons and ultimately to the sexual energy centres and their associated neurons. Thus when defeating these conditionings, one must be fully aware of the breath as it circulates from the bottom of the feet to the crown.

To defeat these voices is to defeat craving and eradicate its arising, and cessation of these voices is an absolute necessity for anyone who is truly seeking to reach the deeper Samadhis. You will not be able to go beyond a certain level of concentration/meditation depth without destroying these things.
One technique is thus: when such a thought arises, you shall exhale all the air in your lungs. Then you shall contract the pelvic floor and lower abdominal muscles and draw the navel into the spine while channeling the energy upward into the crown with your mind - just use your intuition. It is crucial to have a straight back allowing for maximal lung capacity and a correct pelvic tilt when executing the technique. This will nip the overwhelming majority of these thoughts in the bud, the rest may be destroyed by intensive concentration meditation (Vipassana).

The atheistic medical tradition does not understand the gravity of the situation here unfortunately and it is ironic for these very same people have also fallen prey to the whisperers; it blinds them to the spirit world. Rest assured that the war happens on not merely the plane you see in waking life, but across every aspect of the mind.

I am trying to expose their doings, chicanery. And you do this by questioning what they do. Propagandists depend on us not being aware of the tricks they pull so it goes unconscious. IF you make it conscious you undermine it.
You cant shut them out of your life cause a lot of the times they are in your face. But this way you are deconstructing how they build and maintain their matrix. Yes they have a matrix outside--the cops, penal system, CCTV surveillance, and more and more laws and all that is dangerous, but the one they make you put in you is just so if not more so.

There are plenty who don't want what is best for others and only for themselves. Bernays is hardly alone there. While I think my life is better when others are benefiting too, not everyone looks at it that way. And maybe those who can step on others for personal gain have it right. After all it's what lead to the United States ever being formed in the first place and subsequently all this free time I have to think about this crap.

When I think about it this is what I see: Bernays started a chain reaction that is still going. You're looking at his actions and doing things with that examination. Did he intend that? Very very very unlikely. But did it happen? Yep. Along with who knows what else. What he did might have been the best thing for this planet because of what it lead(s) to. Seriously, we simply don't know. And it's only our personal hubris that makes us think that it was some evil act when we have a very tiny sliver of information about all that has happened as a result of any given act. And I think it says more about our personal views than anything. I think we want to find fault

you can call it evil, or immoral, etc, it doesn't matter. IF you have a child taken in by propaganda and s/he goes and falls for their shit, joins their war,  and ends up having limbs blown off, and is psychologically fucked-up, or killed and comes back in a coffin, how do you feel about that?

Do you say, 'oh they--the ones who do the mind-control techniques-- were just trying to do what is best'? OR do you expose their tricks they pull to suck people into their snares? Doing so may help someone else's kid not falling for it.

Well I wouldn't bring a kid into the world knowing what it's like. So I wouldn't feel anything about that very unlikely hypothetical. If it for some reason happened and I wasn't able through living my life as I do to convince them of a superior method of living than going to war, then they go to war. Nothing I could say would change that if my actions weren't enough.

IMO it's really condescending when you do that, most people who already know what you're talking about will feel insulted if you feel the need to spell it out to them. We're all just trying to get by under these fucks. They have a monopoly on violence, do you understand what that means?

So your saying you won't have kids in this world?
it is not an unlikely hypothetical...? it is common.
You only can't convince them when you are ignoreant about it.
Why do you think a lot of kids are racist and homophobic etc etc? because they get all those views from their family. Children can be like sponges, and even will pick up vibes. So if there is an air of shame about sex, either they go the opposite to that or take that shame vibe on themselves.

Oh I have already explained this. When I communicate here, I am not just talking to those 'who know'. many people will look at these threads, some who are not members etc etc. It is worse to assume everyone knows what you mean. Of course I know what it means. That is what I am on about.
