**As far as I can tell, you want the peat made from the coconut, not the fibers from the husk. Someone told me this would be fine to use, but everything in the description counters what I've read. Could someone please clear this up. This is from a hydroponic store, NOT A pet store.

I would go to petco or petsmart and get what they have. Some coir is infused with trich because trich is beneficial to many plants. I have no 1st hand experience with this. But this is what I hear and untill I find out different I will not take the chance.

Pet store its called bed a beast and its like 6 bucks for 3 blocks.  That stuff you mentioned might work but like shroomsisay said it may be infused with trich and that would ruin your grow.  I know for a fact the pet store stuff is clean.

Usually it's just some of the uncompressed stuff that is laced with trich, the compressed stuff is usually fine.

So the product I listed earlier specifically mentions fiber from the husk. It is compressed, but it looked quite dry and stringy. I just found this in the back of the shop, and the guy gave me a sample bag to dig through.

For two cubic feet I think it runs about $20. I believe this is the right stuff, its dark, rich, and its texture if similar to coffee grounds and dirt mixed up with the occasional fibers. As far as I can tell this stuff is legit. It's from a local company though, that I'm going to call tomorrow to actually ask if its been treated with trich. Sometimes in listed, sometimes it isnt, in this case it is not.

@shroomsisay :

I live in a small mountain community, with no large pet stores within an hour drive. As its a very cold and dry place, I have yet to find a decent selection of reptile/amphibian products, as most places here serve to normal domestic & farm animals.

**I should note that it's not in bricks, its actually loose in the bag similar to potting soil.**

Walmart has Coco bricks but you need to order them online.

Unfortunately even walmart ships a lot of its products with wayfair, including this one, which means no shipping to a store, and no shipping to a PO box, which means I cant order that.

Also since this stuff isnt in bricks and its already ground up, wouldnt that just save me the step of breaking it up in anyways? If this stuff is legit to use then its a close and dependable source. Like a 2 minute walk down the street kind of close :tongue:

looks fine 2 me. ive used all kinda diff brands, and found so long as it was bricked it didnt matter then name. im currently using some stuff.. eco earth i think the name of it is.. got it for cheap off amazon.

Yea I found that one online. Obviously it would be simple to just order what works, but I wanted to support a small local grow shop, plus it seemed pretty inexpensive. Would there be any drawback to not having it in a brick form? Like I said earlier its just loose in the bag like any similar potting soil. I may just order that stuff off of amazon if this doesnt pan out.
