I usually dunked for 5-10 minutes.  The grain absorbs most of everything very quickly.  I never found a need for anything more.  But perhaps someone could try and post some results.

I would think the easiest way to test this would be to fill up your jar and mark the water line. Come back 5 mins later, mark it and repeat until the line stops going down and bam you found yourself max absorption from the grains.

zman, give it a shot, though i found that my grains tend to puff up and the water level doesnt move a whole lot.
i checked tonight, its about 1/8 of a quart of water absorbed per grain jar, give or take.

Dump the water out before spawning, so yes, any myc washed off is gone, but it obviously isn't enough to make any difference.

I'm a couple days out from spawning a few coir/verm/gypsum tubs. Will definitely be doing a comparison!

But if the water is dumped prior to spawning then so are the million pieces of myc dispersed in it, or have I misunderstood?
