Rape me my friend....

We've all heard aboot the Kobe Bryant rape thing filling the airwaves, but i've got a question. Do you think it's fair that he can be accused publically with absolutly no proof (yet) and the accuser can have her identity didden? I guess what i'm saying is that I am of the belief that these types of trials should be closed to the public until the verdict is in because if Kobe is innocent, his reputation will be tarnished.
I don't care for basketball at all but it seems everyone who talks aboot it at work etc. have already made him guilty (and who knows).

Yes, it would be nice if the accusation about Kobe could remain unknown until he's found guilty.
But the identity of the victim should definitely be kept secret.

I also think that if the accuser lies, they should serve the same penalty that the rapist would have served.

Two good points.
Both are as it SHOULD be.

I was gonna say that lying isnt as bad as raping, but lying that would ruin someone's life, may as well be rape, so yea I agree with you.

it's sort of like raping someone's life. I think lying aboot rape is worse than rape itself, sort of. Maybe not but it is horrible reguardless.

then again, if you put something like that in as a law, then people will be afraid to bring anyone to court on account of really good lawyers making it look like they were lying.

That is a very good point. That is the same reason why rape victims identities are protected. You always want to make it easier for a violated woman to come forward. The safer and less embarassing you can make the process the better. As far as the women who cry rape falsely goes, they should have some kind of penalty against them. If it is shown to be a blatant lie, then punishment is in order. It makes it tougher for the real victims to be taken seriously. To me anyone that would lie about something that serious is a scum bag. Personally, I put true rape up their with murder. Rapists are sick fucks that deserve death IMO.

That's why i think rape trials should NEVER be opened to the public. Actually short of public officials i think a majority of trials should NOT be covered by the media until it is proven one way or the other. It's a catch 22, because i agree that rape is up there with murder but i also know that feeling guilty the next morning gets turned into rape all too often (not that i know mind you.. ). I really don't have a solution other than treating rape as a different kind of crime needing a different kind of litigation.

In any case, acquittal of the accused rapist should not constitute proof that the alleged rape victim lied.

Not automatically, no.
But in the event of acquittal, an investigation should be done and if sufficient evidence is found, then try the accuser.

It just makes me sick..Like, physically nauseous, to see that all of a sudden, one rape trial involving a guy who a plays a game, is suddenly, if you go by time on the airwaves, twice as important as anything that happens in the entire WORLD?
Someone has their priorities severely fucked up....

You're quite correct. Stories like this are silly.
Equally silly is the media paying any attention at all to what some actor / actress thinks about world affairs.

How big is this in the USA? I haven't heard about it yet anywhere outside the Shroomery. Is there any chance that it gets as big as the OJ Simpson trial? That one got a lot of attention here in Europe too, for whatever reason.

There was a fairly high-profile case in the UK last year where a woman accused a fairly famous political couple of luring her to their home and raping her. Instead of going to the police first, she went to a notorious British PR guy (Max Clifford) and it was all over the papers. It turned out to be complete horseshit (as many suspected), and I think last month the woman was sentenced to 3 years in jail for her trouble.
-------------------- The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame". In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience. And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him. "Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.

Good points inny. I heard this morning that kobe had a 5 year 3 million dollar contract with nike, that is now on hold because of this whole scandal...
It seems women crying 'rape' are becoming more common these days.......but its better to beilieve than not to, otherwise that negro lady bush raped may not see justice for her case!

I think she by all means deserves the right to make her accusations or whatever, and Kobe has the right to a fair trial, but how does it become so incredibly important to like, 40 million other people?
