Why do humans talk - let's try silence

Aside from pheromones, and sounds; animals don't communicate through language. What I admire about them is their silence. Do you think if humans take vows of silence, that their interactions would be more simplistic, in other words, do you think language/communication sometimes complicates relationships instead of making it pleasant? If we stop talking for a while, do you think we'll get along better? Are we missing the value of simplicity by trying to explain it in words, instead of just living it?

Yeah, words are very vague anyway. I like being quiet. It's kind of amusing that some people can't stand silence, so they just start babbling about random things whenever it gets a bit quiet.

Its a progression its coming but cannot be forced so vows of silence could be useless.

You have obviously never had a siamese cat.

Mostly I live alone so other than talking to my cat and having him talk back I have to go out to yack with people.  At poker I just plain yack cause I have no concern about getting the boot there or having to "fit in".  What's to fit?  Put up your money and you don't have to shut up.  I had a woman threaten me in there the other day and she loves everybody.  Especially me felt bad later apologized.  How else can you really piss people off other than talking to them or shooting at them?

I was playing Omaha (silently) at the casino last year when a lady told me "We don't play like that!" because I raised with the best hand. I looked at the dealer and asked if I was doing anything wrong knowing the answer. When he said "No", I told the biddy to shut-the-fuck up and mind her business - in a very polite way, of course!

She harumphed and harumphed and threatened to go home if I continued playing in a way other than she deemed acceptable. I told her I would hold the door open for her.

She grabbed her chips mumbling to herself and left.

I find a steady diet of chatter works best.  You just have to know what buttons to push.  Guy next to me last night physically threatened me the week before when I "mumbled" after a hand in relation to him.  Weighs maybe 350 lbs.  Nice enough but has a snapping point.  I didn't provoke him.  At one point he slams the table with his hand pretty hard.  I just let him go.  No comments on his hands or play.  Just silence.  It's sad to some extent but a lot of folks really don't know how to play Omaha.  He is one of them.

I like times of silence, I'm quiet by nature, so is my partner. We can sit and enjoy each other's company without pressure to talk. It's quite nice.

I also enjoy conversation, but I hate talking (shouting/mouthing!) for the sake of it. There has been evenings I've spent in company of people where it has all been vacuous noise pollution.

Quality over quantity in that department please.

Because it's more fun/constructive to add to a conversation than to just sit there in silence and if someone starts a conversation with you it's super rude/dickish to just blow them off. Plus, it's a hell of a lot easier to get your point across than having to write it down or use sign language.

yup dmob, sometimes.

But, give it a try.

What's also good is to speak, then allow a statement to sink in without reply. Not to jump in quickly with a response. Let 2 mins for it to take effect. Then speak in return.

That can help de-escalate argument and help understanding. My therapist suggested that to me (silence as a tool, if you like).

aside from pheremones and sound... well language is only sound. whales and several species of monkeys as well as anything in the orca family, ants, bees, elephants, hyenas, meerkats, and multitudes of others actually have their own "languages". The difference is that while they use it for simple communications like location of food or warning or for mating, whales and orcas (orca, killer whales, dolphins) use it for teaching as well as many monkeys, ants use it for the absolute basics, elephants even have a set of tones to warn of bees. Hyenas have a somewhat complex language as well. Ants and bees languages revolve around clicking and buzzing (similar to he african tribe) hyenas actually have varying pitches for each word as do the monkeys. aquatic mammals use a variation of clicks and fluctuating tones as their 'words'. Many creatures have languages, apes have been show to even be able to lie freely of their own will. We haven't been able to test this with aquatic mammals as we haven't deciphered their language yet. But there is one thing that none of them do. Only humans use language to offend and hurt. only humans use information they don't actually possess. So yeah humans should shut up. but only because we continuously lie o ourselves, which is the one thing no other animal has been capable of doing. petty sad huh? But no, we aren't the only ones with languages. We simply have the most advanced ability to understand language and the most complex languages.

I do admire the fact the animals for the most part are able to stay silent. Mainly I love cats. They are smart, loyal, independent, quite and very lovable.
Here is what I believe. Humans don't need to communicate through language or sound. Through evolution humans have felt the need to develop a sense of independence. As evolution took its toll, mankind began labeling things with grunts and noises. (Our brains were relatively small at this point)As our brains began to grow, our sense of exploration did too.
Through exploration we traveled to new places and met new races that had their own sounds and noises. As humans began to explore and meet new races, their alliances and enemies grew. Back in the old times humans fought wild animals as well as other humans. They were naturally aggressive due to the fact the they have been fighting animals to survive the whole time. As they explored and met new tribes, they mated and breed. Survival got tougher as their were more people to feed and tensions between tribes grew thicker. As the tribes grew, food began to get scarce. When the food started to run out, tribes would break off and go into new directions with their families in search of new food. From here the cycle continued. Explore, meet new people, breed, feed, leave. When doing this so many times people began to create enemies, basic fights for food and survival. Fights over women and land. Tribes would then begin to keep their language to themselves as means of survival. If another tribe doesn't know what you are talking about...then they don't know anything about you. This effect has transcended through the years and especially now, more then ever, plays a huge downside to the human race.
People label themselves according to their nationality or language, when really, we are all on conscience energy having an experience on this earth. I believe people do have the ability to communicate telepathically, so long as they are on the same level of understanding and mutuality. So long as people can all learn to love one another their would be no reason to have multiple different languages, or even one central language for that matter. The basic truth is languages are used to keep information from people who you would not want to know that information.
What we need to do is stop hiding from each other. Be one with each other and learn to love all and everything. The key to life is love.
