Another ego ponderance
    #1736072 -

How do Self confidence and the Ego relate in your eyes, considering
the it's healthy confidence and not just blind pride?
Thanks :oogle:

There's a fine line, but it is there. I am a very confident person (except for some destructive mood swings that are getting fewer and fewer everyday); however, I basically created that confidence out of necessity, and I don't believe it is the same as blind pride. "I am the best, so I have to be right" doesn't run in my head. Its sort of hard to pinpoint, since it IS a fine line. I believe it lies in your intentions... I am confident because I like to believe in myself and my abilities, it's hard to get around without, but I'm not confident because I am the best, because everyone else is dumb and I am smart. I don't see it that way.
Good question, I believe.
Peace.

Self-confidence comes from intuitively knowing your inner-self, admitting every weakness, and utilizing every strength.

Blind pride, ego or cockiness comes from knowing a constructed version of yourself and acting it out. It comes from denying weakness and abusing strength.

"No wait, that's what I said, you stole my idea! I said it first! I am GOD!"
<- Self-confidence, or Ego? hehe
Kudos to Amnesiac.

Of course I explained it better than you, I'm the best, and everybody except me is stupid!

A balanced self-confidence should not be any different from confidence in any other person. It's really just a question of trying to judge in advance what a person is capable of. Self-confidence is when you apply that judgement to yourself.

I think it's more important to realize that any such judgement is just a wild guess fundamentally, rather than to try and imagine yourself as being much more competent than you are. Fear of failure is often confused with lack of self-confidence. I see them as two different things.

Fear of failure should not exist. Fear of failure ruins my playing technique, while being confident that I am the best, I can play anything, and even if I do mess up, I'm allowed to, since I am the best, so bow before The Bass God.
Thank you. *plays super-melodic, 200 bpm run*
Peace.

So if one is trying to see the illusory nature of their ego, transcend it, become enlightened you know that whole crock, is it possible to keep "self" confidence. To me you would just "be", and there would be no need of s.c. or need ot to have s.c.. sorry Im not being very explanatory. I've been cooking food to sell on RAGBRAI for the past 24 hours straight.

True self confidance comes from knowing your mortality. Its the realisation that nothing "matters" and thus, isn't even truley self confidance, but rather controlled folly.
