Shrunk substrate?

AFOF filled some jars, about 4 month ago, sterilized them, but never inculated them... afof check the jars and the substrate was 1/2 way down the original size... afof sacrificed one jar, opend it and stuck his finger in there if the substrate was dry or not... it was preatty moisted... so afof is wondering if the shrunk jars will still fruit ?
