Re: Possible to add more substrate to add more flushes? [Re: Tantalus]

"Remember that every iteration, half the old mycelium is being replaced w/ brand new, rich and fresh substrate material. Which would naturally replace old myc with new myc. After about 4 iterations or so, the original older myc would no longer even exist... it would have eventualy gotten circulated out."

You have many misunderstandings. This is one of them. Its still the SAME myc as when it starts, its just older.

Also- 50% old casing and 50% new pasteurized shit/straw/bulk is STILL UNSTERILE. If you add nutrients that were not also PASTEURIZED, you add risk of CONTAMS.

This is also NOT decreasing effort. When you do this mixing of old stuff with new stuff you will be losing yeild, uping chances of contams (total failure), uping mutant occurances. Its like taking a baby thats 9 months in th womb ready to be born, then transplanting it to another womb for another 9 months and again and again. How do you think that baby is gonna end up looking.

This whole thing...not a good idea. Its best to start with FRESH spawn and FRESH culture when you start your new grow. And if you were going to do this, adding nutrient water would be bad, no matter how small, its not gonna help, only hurt. If you want to know why what we say is true and you still dont get it, try it. By all means experiment. Or you can take the words of those who have done so before you and just take what we say as is.

I know this is necro posting but I had too chime in, great points for sure. I’ve successfully added substrate too an existing cake in a sterile environment, took away FAE and light and              re-colonization takes about a week 1/2, then introduce fruiting conditions. And it becomes like a first flush again, I came across another thread on Reddit where they have been adding more substrate every 2nd flush, so colonize, fruit, cultivate, re-hydrate, fruit cultivate, then add about a 1/4-1/2 inch of sub (CVG is all I use), hydrate, then treat it as off you just spawned too bulk and let colonize again. The only tips I really have are contam is super easy so if you mess up and aren’t as clean as possible your screwed. Second if you do attempt too do this, make sure the re-sub layer you add is patted down firm around and on top of the existing cake. Again sooty for the necro- post I was just reading into this a bit more to see if anyone else has tried this and what methods they use Thanks.
