An option to turn this off would be great. I also thought it was something it wasn't. There are ways i get to the chat besides a link under EVERYONE'S name

Perhaps change "Let's Chat" to "Shroomery Chat" to make it less confusing. The list of people in the chat room is MUCH longer now than before the online status was added, so this is definitely bringing about more awareness of the chat program.

Can't you change the color of this and shrink it a little to make it a good icon?

Clickable chat bubble (like the main chat button at the top of every page) to the right of the users name with a tool tip that says something like "Join public chat" with a really short hover over time.

The giant box is kind of distracting and isn't compatible with the many themes.

Break out your graphics editor and create the images you want for it.

Yeah, I thought I might have come across as bitching, sorry. Thanks for having the hide option.
I still like it'd be better not in each post, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

It's there as an online/offline indicator, which is what OP asked for.

How about the blue speech bubble exists to the right of the username when they are in chat, and doesn't when they aren't.

Order would be:
[Online Indicator] [Username] [Supporter/Admin/Mod Flag] [Birthday Indicator] [Chat Indicator]

And just like the B-day indicator it will disappear when the user isn't logged into chat.

Anyways those who want to find chat would look for it and eventually find it (fairly easily I might add), I figure this feature would be for people who aren't aware of chat to accidentally stumble upon it.

Any file type specifications cause I'm getting partial transparencies when I reduce it. If PNGs are allowed then this isn't an issue, if I'm restricted to GIF like smileys then I'll have to continue.
