Are you suggesting that the majority-idiot-populace of America (the theme of this thread) home school their children?  That makes me shudder just thinking about it.

You can relegate Sesame Street to "some prancing giant bird on the idiot box" all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that it contributes to the development of young minds by creating and reinforcing critical thinking situations in proven models that work to mentally stimulate children in ways that most parents are unable.

As has been mentioned PBS has been overrun with radical leftists so it is more like indoctrination than education. Its time for the commies to meet there maker.  :sniper: Or at least lose all funding!

Yeah I agree with this.

I'm not necessarily saying PBS or Sesame Street deserves public funding.  But I'm tired of hearing that "Do It Yourself" and stop relying on other people attitude - it is way overused.  We don't live in a "DIY" economy.  In fact, the general nature of an economy is not DIY.  The purpose is to do one thing that you are good at it, and trade that for other things, so that you don't have to do everything yourself.

Yes we have a lot of dumb people, including parents, in this country.  But it is not necessarily a failure on parents that they cannot educate their children efficiently.  Just as you would not say "Build your own house" or "manafacture your own car" to someone, it is just as ok to pay

One book that springs to mind is Life, Inc. by Douglas Rushkoff.  He basically documents how these things came to be.  Pretty interesting book.
I'm speaking of the taxing and such, not of the utility of PBS.
