That bulrush mushroom is cool as hell! The gills look a bit brown for Mycena, but I am really not sure what it is.

The latest issue of Fungi has an expose on Chaga. And from what I have gathered I do believe you have a
look alike unless it is a paper birch tree.

ya that sounds cool. i work in the off season on a 10 acre plot of land where my hippy friends have a blueberry farm and a wicked permaculture mini farm. i was able to bring my mycological landscaping there and spread shit tons of wood chips and inoculated like mad!! :headbanger: was going to make a morel patch in their orchard, i spread a bunch of ashes from the stove under the apples and mixxed with chips. but i wasnt able to get any spawn in time. who knows it may work naturally. theres always next year.

That's a nice clump of Laetiporus.

I thought L. conifericola was inedible/poisonous due to this article..which I now see is from 2006. In sum, it said:

Quote:
In western north America, true Laetiporus sulphureus does not occur, but at least two lookalikes do: Laetiporus gilbertsonii (on eucalyptus, and more frequently implicated in poisonings) and Laetiporus conifericola (on conifers). If you are unlucky, or sensitive to whatever unidentified toxin is in these, you may experience vomiting, chills, and perhaps mild hallucinations–I haven’t heard of any deaths. Yet there are many (probably over 90% of you) who eat these species with impunity, so it’s hard to know what to advise, except caution.

Good to know because I just found some the other day (back in BC, by the by :dancer:)

thats wierd because my Dad got pretty sick the other day . We thought he had the flu as he was getting the chills and also body aches and vomiting. classic flu like symptons. But part of me was questioning the mushrooms. My monm said he was wolfing em down so he ate quite a bit it think.

So like many edible mushrooms, its only edible for some  . And if he would have heeded my warning and only eaten a bit your first time he may have had a better night.

thanks for the link.

Keep it coming man. I'm pulling for your azure pots to have a good season. :shroompick::popcorn:

Having lived through an existence close to nature, one accepts the small and simple things as most important in life. Sun, wind, rain and snow. The sounds birds make, smells of fresh wild flowers. Love of all kinds, from friends and family, thy self and our neighbors. Beautiful sunrises to the darkest clouds dancing above in the sky. To forgive, learn, share and express. This is the only thing a man such as myself can ask for. What comes as the result is nothing short of the core of human existence, to truly live free in body and mind.
