Cost of a Two Bedroom Apartment Too High For Minimum Wage
    #16589014 -

I saw this article which describe the amount of hours you'd need to work on minimum wage to afford the average two bedroom apartment.

In my state it takes 103 hours of work per week to afford just the apartment on minimum wage. That doesn't factor in any other costs of living. It also doesn't take into account that by law you must have a lunch break and the time it takes to get to work (which for people on this budget who probably ride the bus, tends to be quite high.) The 103 hours may be closer to 120.

Thoughts?

I'd like to mention, In Australia the unemployment is double what it is in the United States and they still have a lower unemployment rate.

My father requires $2000 take home per month for a $680 per month efficiency room apartment at his complex. He also requires very good credit history, which weeds out most applicants.

Most applicants fail either in income or credit history, and it's worse than ever before, he basically tells them, they need to find a place and have multiple roommates, it's not fun when your older as well.

The mineral and agricultural wealth of a nation needs to be equally distributed between the peoples, with an ardent focus on automation of all sectors of society.

how is such a thing even possible? how do you divide that equally among 6 billion people? there isnt enough. and even if it were enough, the population boom that would result from that would soon make it so there wasnt enough. there would be a devastating drop in population due to starvation and war once resources were truly extinguished and the only way to get more was from your neighbor

For starts Australia doesn't have 6 billion people, I'd be jacking the thread if I went into the logistics and the world is in devastating population crisis, starvation and war in countries with great mineral  and ecological wealth, I could go on ad infinitum.

Back to the op, It's a shitta try having a mortgage on a single family income and the bread winner just loses their job and now on the fkn dole.

Soldier on buddy!!!

Aside from the raw trembling idiocy of the highlighted sentence why should a complete loser who can only achieve minimum wage be able to afford a two bedroom apartment on only his earnings?

Nobody deserves to live in a 2-bedroom apartment.  Someone making only minimum wage should probably be sharing a studio apartment.  I shared a tiny apartment for years even though I made much more than most people will make by the time they retire.  Even now I only pay the equivalent of 16 hours a week at minimum wage in rent for a nice furnished apartment (that I share) in an expensive major US city.

People have no fucking priorities.

I made minimum wage once.  Then I made a little more.  I still couldn't afford a two bedroom apartment.  So I didn't have one.  I didn't have a fucking kid, either.  There is nothing elitist about paying for what you get and not getting what you can't pay for.

Edited for incorrect their/they're/there.

I'm not an elitist, but adults that can't get anything better then minimum wage employment are pathetic

Agreed.

Anyone that makes way more than most people make when they retire absolutely does not deserve more than a tiny apartment to share with someone else.  Not in Tea Party America they don't.

You should be banned for flaming, I can personally argue my points better without insulting you

Adults(if they aren't in some way handicapped) that can't get better then minimum wage employment are pathetic worthless beings.  Just like all the other socially parasitic scum, I will laugh at their demise if things ever  really get tough in the land of milk and honey we call America. These parasites have it easy. Let's compare their problems to people in the third world. You know, people who have real problems not just their own laziness and stupidity. If you can't succeed here you certainly couldn't in most of the rest of the world where there is far less wealth, charity, and most importantly opportunity

Okay, a dependant mom and three kids ... husband abandons them or commits a crime & is incarcerated ... She works full-time and cares for her kids full-time ... She doesn't "deserve" a two bedroom apartment for her family?

Middle aged electrician loses his job due to economy, no fault of his own (his employer's 20 year business folds).  While unemployed and earnestly looking for work in his field, he takes the only job he can find, stocking shelves and replacing carts at the grocery store, and it doesn't have health insurance until he's been there for three months.    One evening his wife dies and kids are injured in a car crash.  That was their only car.  After burial and medical expenses, and after buying a used car, his savings are gone.  He can't afford a two bedroom apartment for him and his two kids.  He doesn't "deserve" one.

In a country of hundreds of millions, extreme hardships happen to good people under uniquely stressful circumstances all the time.  Here, on this thread, we have perfect examples why conservatives are not the people with answers.  On the one hand, conservatives believe government should not help people like I described above, and, on the other hand, conservatives believe people don't deserve more than hardship if they can't do any better for themselves on their own.  A conservative disdains you for having children, "fucking kids".  A conservatives calls you a "parasite" and "scum".  If government is not the answer, the charity of conservatives, like the ones we have here, is of no use to anyone. This underscores the core message of conservatism: fuck you.
