using BRF cakes to get a monoculture

Got a fun idea for you guys:

noccing up BRF cakes w/ pro lids (no dry verm layer) w/ MS GLC

birthing early in glovebox

use sterilized scalpels to make multiple transfers to agar

you could transfer the best sections (you have a much better selection than you would have on a petri dish)...



just an idea- has anyone tried this?

It doesn't really get you anything extra, the genetics are the same.
Better in that case, IMHO, to fruit the cake, take a tissue clone on agar, and go from there.

Well yeah, of course... but couldn't you clone a fruit on agar, tranfers sectors to different BRF cakes, then grow it out, then take sectors from that?

Just an idea.

Noobs could use BRF cakes w/o a PC, then use a glovebox to do everything else... get what I'm trying to accomplish here?

Basically, w/o a PC you could buy 10 or so pre-sterilized plates of agar, and whip up a few BRF cakes, and bam... you should be able to accomplish the same thing.

Seems like too much extra work and pointless waiting... but just an idea nonetheless...

You could transfer from agar to brf to agar.
Or you could transfer from agar to agar. Why mess with the brf step?
What advantage do you think brf has over agar?

No advantage- it was a highdea I thought of while looking at pint BRFs crazy rhizomorphs from a GLC noc...

Just thought it would be cool to try just for the hell of it.

I've been obsessed with BRF everything lately... it would be super cool to G2G with a BRF cakes as your master jar.

I wanna try setting a completely grown-out petri in the middle of a 3 or 4 qt BRF bag in front of the flowhood... just to watch the rhizomorhs haha. It would also be cool to film a time-lapse of it growing.
