BRF cakes on perlite, good or bad.

I have 4 BRF cakes that are fully colonized and ready to birth but I wasn't sure if I needed to put them on some kind of stand(the lids of the jars) or something, or if it was quite alright to just let them sit directly on the perlite. I have around 1 inch of perlite and its 3/4 full of water, will the cakes be alright sitting on the perlite or do I need to put them on some kind of stand.
Thanks

If you're SURE your jars are FULLY colonized... Open them, fill them with spring water, re-cover 'em and put them in the fridge for 12 hours. Then birth them to your terrarium on top of squares of aluminium foil on top of the perlite. NOT directly on the perlite.

You're telling him to put his cakes ON THE PERLITE?????
BAD INFORMATION!!
Good idea to suck the excess water out of the perlite though.

yes, when I put my chocolate cakes on perlite it made to damn waterlogged!
I recommend not putting on perlite. Aluminum Foil, plastic or glass all work good.
Just don't stick on perlite. I also recommend dunking before the first flush and dunk after each flush!

i've read of a few people that leave the cakes directly on the perlite until they start to pin, then they remove them (by placing on a rack or tin foil or lids) and have had great success with this method. the reason they do this is to help rehydrate the cakes from the perlite.
however like everyone mentioned here it may not be the best idea so if you dont, be sure to dunk, dunk, dunk!!! sorry i dont have any links to other posts demonstrating this, but you could try a search. good luck!

I set my cakes on aluminum, but I had an accident and had to pick up one of the cakes, when picked up I noticed water on the bottom of the cake, could that be slowing down pinning? It's been 3 weeks and no pins yet

My Question is why should I fill the jars with spring water and then put them into a refrigerator for 12 hrs before birthing them to my grow chamber?

Well you should dunk and roll. Its in the BRF tek(pf tek) directions.
Can be tap water. The fridge is just so the water doesn't go bad overnight if you choose. If you're only dunking for 8-12 hours forget the fridge.
And check thread ages. And read all the first few pages and last few at the least.

This is why you avoid 15 year old threads lol... Soak in water for up to 24 hours room temp is fine..rinse after the dunk and roll in dry verm. Look for more up to date advise and info and good luck.
