Extracting from BRF Cake..

Hi All!

I looked around, and read you can extract mycelium from cakes with cranberry juice! I beleive this was with birdseek cakes or rye cakes,..

Is it safe to do the same with a brown rice and vermiculite cake?? my concern is with the vermiculite... healthy???

Any info,,,, anyone...

some people just eat the BRF cake...but I don't know from extractions. Do a search in all forums...this has been covered several times in the past and I do remember someone mentioning the cranberry juice method.

yeah you can do it, i suggest getting some cheese cloth to strain it out. but intstead why not just wait for the fruits??

I'd love to wait for the fruits but am having problems.... .the cakes have been in the terranium for about 2 weeks now and no fruits yet... arghhhhh

I had a tray with perlite for hum,,, then 2 days ago i switched to a 2 liter juice jug with a double airstone aquarium pump, and threw in some grow rocks to increase air surface...

The cakes are making a sort of white foam on the top, and it looks as if pins are to start but nothing.... am i just too impatient??

My setup might be too hot.. i've got them in the attic.. must be like 25+ C in there.... would this be the prob????

curious,
your temps are fine. the white stuff is the mycelium growing still, are you providing enough O2? Also, make sure the recieve a splash of light everyday for pins. other than that yeah wait abit longer. i personally dont like the trip off of cakes too, much better to be patient. just think, in about a month youll have enough shrooms growing to trip whenever you want. enjoy

The cranberry Juice thing is a waste of time. If it were that great of a way of extraction etc, everyone would be doing it, and talking about variations on the Tek etc.....I did it and nothing happened, just a waste of cakes. Plus you just never know if the vermiculite is bad for you , long or short term...not werth it

Cranberry juice extraction does work. Not that i recommend it but it does. Surely everyone knows that you need several cakes ( prefruit) to trip hard from extraction in general...

I asked this same question a week ago and i was told that the cranberry juice works if you allow the cakes to flush at least a couple of times before hand. I'm almost there and going to try it . I'll post my results

I thought it would only work after its given off a flush, or at least after its started growing pins? Ive got just one cake after one flush and soaked it in orange juice for around two hours, then filtered it. I had a mellow little trip. Ide just do it after its given off all the flushes that it could. It'd be like squeezing out one more little trip.

prefruit=need a shit load of cakes to trip
post fuit=need less cakes to trip

I really wish someone would delete that cranberry extraction thing. Has anyone honestly tripped off it? All i hear is complaints about it.

vermiculite was thought to be hazardous for a while ( your link is referring to a 2000 report) but as far as I know those claims were unfound in further studies. anyone got a link to the up to date info?
