Re: Digital Anti-Repression Workshop (Your cyber privacy and liberty is no doubt in question) [Re: DieCommie]

Experience is much more reliable than hearsay.
What is worse than reading misinformation and then presenting it as fact later?

Shit is real. Believe what you will. Everything you do with any telecommunications device is being logged daily and has been since their implementation or shortly there after. If you don't believe that they have access to these resources, you are in living in denial. But just because they possess these powers doesn't mean they retain the resources to confront every piece of crime. That is an unrealistic and silly notion.

I don't think there are enough hard drives on the entire planet to log every thing everybody does with any telecommunications device.  Its a ridiculous notion.

Hahaha, storage is cheap.
And platters and spinning disks are a thing of the past for the powers in control.

Also, look into researching the 'Alpha 5Ghz' processor that came out in the 1970's!!! It was quickly bought up Dell and obviously never released again...

Technology on a consumer level is released in the most economically sensible way.

You should watch the video. Im not saying its possible to do so but from what Jacob says I believe
it to be very possible.

You are claiming that the govt doesnt use harddrives?  Dude, you are just talking nonsense...

The govt. lags behind in technology.  They do not have secret storage technologies that allow them to store the petabytes or even exabytes of information involved in all telecommunications.

You are joking right? The government lags behind in technology?? Please prove this.

I don't understand how you can't fathom the space it would take. Google has every single query saved... Same with Bing from the day the search engine went live. Storage space is cheap and resources are unimaginable.

Once again, you can continue to believe what you choose but even viewing it from a logical subject, why wouldn't they? They have the resources: knowledge, best of the best applicants, money, space, data centers, availability, etc. The accomplishing of obtaining all telecommunications data is a simple task.

Prove?  You should know by now that I dont prove anything (except maybe mathematical theorems).  Requiring 'proof' for things which only can be suggested by evidence is an unreasonable request.

Consumers drive technology then the govt. adopts it.  They are looking at giving iPhones to soldiers now, because of course apple's tech is beyond what the army can do.

The govt.'s technological sophistication is limited by the civilian organizations that they contract to do their R&D for them.

This contrarian straw man shit in every political thread gets old real quick.

The NSA isnt building an unprecedented data collection center for no reason.

How is that relevant to any point I have made?

And you have the gall to call me out with 'straw man shit'...

Why would they need that center if they are already storing every form of telecommunications and can already crack 4096 PGP encyrption?

They need that center because they cannot and do not copy all telecommunications and they need to expand their ability.

Source?

You claim the government could not possibly store all that data. Im sorry but that is quite a claim.
Start watching the vid in the OP at the 20 minute mark. They are collecting this data.

Are you kidding me man?

Please visit DARPA's website and look at what they are into. That technology is so far over your or my head that we couldn't even begin to grasp the concepts.

He is simply asking you to site sources.

I do not want to further in this conversation with you simply because you have denied first hand evidence, rejected the proposed request for valid sources and already have your mind decided on what you believe and aren't going to change it, clearly.

You are living in a crazy world to believe that any piece of our government that fights crime or defends our freedoms at home or across seas is experiencing technological handicaps or are even dwelling at the consumer level...

Once again, I mean no harm and am glad we could discuss. I simply wish you were more open minded and willing to listen to others, rather than approaching the dialogue with predetermined dispositions.

I'm sorry but this is flawed logic.  The Army is looking into giving soldiers iphones because its cheap technology.

Yeah iphones are far and away technologically superior to the most powerful military in the world. Get the fuck outta here.

Consumers drive the market.  There is technology out there for smartphones much more smart than what is on the market now, but its not economically feasible to mass produce a $10,000 phone that no one will buy.

I never made the claim about encryption.

And you answered your own question.  They need more space to store and analyze data as internet and smartphone use expands.

Not if you have a notion of big numbers.

Here is an article on internet usage alone,
http://www.good.is/post/how-much-data-do-americans-consume-each-day/

3.6 zettabytes a day.  That is internet only.

Then here,

So this suggests that if the largest disk farm in the world in 1996 was 75 terabytes, the total disk space in the world was 22,500 terabytes.

Of course that is 15 years ago... But even moore's law isnt that strong.

DemocracyNow.org - National Security Agency whistleblower William Binney reveals he believes domestic surveillance has become more expansive under President Obama than President George W. Bush. He estimates the NSA has assembled 20 trillion "transactions" — phone calls, emails and other forms of data — from Americans. This likely includes copies of almost all of the emails sent and received from most people living in the United States. Binney talks about Section 215 of the USA PATRIOT Act and challenges NSA Director Keith Alexander's assertion that the NSA is not intercepting information about U.S. citizens.

What claim?

That civilian technology is ahead of the military?  Or that its not possible to store every bit of telecommunications?
