Have you only just noticed Myanmar in the last ten days?

I've been watching what's going on there for the last 15 or 20 years, having a friend from Burma kindled my interest.

The events of the last week are nothing new and like I said, nothing will change, it never does.

China has by far the most influence over what happens in Burma, China has absolutely no interest in supporting democratic change in Myanmar.

Yes, I am aware of the atrocities which have sent refugees running over the years but please read the article from wiki man...this is like...really coming to a head...please read it and then comment that nothing will change...it's CHANGING but not necessarily towards democracy! We're talking bashing the heads of Monks against the walls of the monasteries, curfew violators shot in the street, internet access cut off so to stop pics from getting out etc. etc. etc. :mad2:

China, according to this link is encouraging the country to adopt a democratic gvt. I read the quote from their gvt rep and was shocked. If it's so, that'd be because...why? Why d'you think they'd do that?

Curious to know so share your educated thoughts...after you read the link if you please.

What makes you think this uprising is any different than what happened in 1988?

A Swedish diplomat who visited Burma during the protests said last night that in her opinion the revolution has failed.

Liselotte Agerlid, who is now in Thailand, said that the Burmese people now face possibly decades of repression. "The Burma revolt is over," she added.

It's over.

A Facebook users group, Support the Monks' protest in Burma, was formed immediately following the first network reports of monks marching past Aung San Suu Kyi's house. The group grew to over 230,000 members by October 1. The group is calling for a global expression of solidarity through public demonstrations on October 6 in cities and towns worldwide.

I read the Wiki article, not that I give wiki much creedence.

Repeat, nothing will change in Myanmar, it's already all over bar the shouting. It'll be gone from the news next week.

Nothing will change.

You think that's anything new?  No it's been like that for two decades.

It's no worse than it's ever been and certainly no better but nothing will change.

Sorry to expose you to the harsh reality of this situation.

Locking a thread because people voice views that differ from your own would be a concept that the Burmese Junta would find familiar.

fascism starts with individuals.
