Panaeolus species (maybe 3 differnet ones?) from tropical Asia (pics)
    #16189907 -

Hello again!  We go out picking again today.  Only find a few cubensis, but they are very perfect, veil still close but just about to open, so very solid and firm.  it still too dry for big flush i think.  But Panaeolus species fruit on exposed buffalo dung, and also can fruit on slightly fresher dung than cubensis, at least in this area.

So today i find at least one active Panaeolus i think because go blue.  But have 2 other types that look wrong, one has brown gills.

All these are in same area as previous id request here (Tropical SE Asia, an island near Philippines): http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/16120244

here are a couple photos to see of area from other request.

https://files.shroomery.org/files/12-16/503065377-Pan.1.jpg

All measurements in photos are 1cm2 per square.  each little line within is mm.

___________________________________
Species #1

Habitat: Cow dung in grassy field, same habitat as P. cubensis.  these fields stay moist from humid and dew, but fruit only after rains.  hot and tropical.

Gills:  brown

Stem: tan-light in color.  it will snap after bending about 50 degree, can peel the stem.

Cap: biggest about 2cm diameter and maybe 1.5 high.  light tan, young ones had moist caps, some of them were white with a darker center at the tip (top of cap) at picking, that has gone away though after 6 hours.  all drying dark.

Spore Print: caps not dropping many, i took pic below, you can see.  i dont know if its black, purple or brown.

Bruising: none to see.

General location:  directly from dung in grassy buffalo fields after some rain storms earlier in the week.  these grew in big and small ones, exposed to sun and not.  there were about 100 on 3 large dung pies, not in groups, all solitary but some close together.

__________________________________________________

Species #2 Bruises blue

Habitat:  grassy field in tropical Asia.  water buffalo fields.

Gills:  black

Stem: long and thin, breaks and peels easily.

Cap: light tan color, middle sometimes darker.  they are not dry yet, but they have remained the same color, but they were also picked younger than species #1.

Spore Print: black

Bruising: blue.  these did turn blue, but when got home to camera the blue areas had turned black already, i think rotting?

General location:  direct form dung, but around the edge and always in protection of grass.  didn't find in center of bare dung, only in grass but growing from the dung.

__________________________________________________

Species #3 -brownish-red gills

Habitat: As above

Gills: a brownish red

Stem: Like above but slightly shorter.

Cap: to me, also like above but again smaller.  maybe 1cm diameter.

Spore Print: i am taking now, but they are not dropping anything on white paper, i cant see white spores.  So maybe not this time.

Bruising:  No bruising.

General location:  In cow dung, more like species #1 in that it will grow anywhere on the dung, in or out of the grass.

__________________________________________________

Hope to know what these may be.  they all look very similar but seem to be 3 distinct species, which worry me a great deal!  I think only eat the P. cubensis because ID is very easy, but want to try new kinds so if you think these are safe please say.

I very appreciate you guys volunteering your time to help people like me

Species #2 looks to be Panaeolus cyanescens:congrats:

Not sure on #1.

Species #3 looks like some species of Conocybe. If some grow in your area, keep on the lookout for an active Conocybe.

1) Doesn't look like a Panaeolus or Panaeolina, maybe Deconica?
2) Panaeolus cyanescens, but it may be something even cooler like Panaeolus cambodiginensis! Not sure if that grows near you.
3) Looks like a Conocybe species.

very good, and exciting

Do you know a good resource for knowing about your Panaeolus cambodiginensis?  I am not in Cambodia, but we do get direct air currents from there, and we are not too far away, so maybe possible.

If you have the time, could you tell me which species of Asian Conocybe are active?  I very want to look up things like spores and how gills look to try and ID next time.  But i think maybe active one still bruise blue?

There are LOTS of all 3 of above in this area.

EDIT:  i have camera, microscope and connector, how much more helpful is it to have microscopic pictures of spores for ID?  And if its important, what is the name of the tool that i can use like a slide but has measurements in it, i am not sure English name.  Thank you everyone again.

You can find active species for state and countries here http://www.shroomery.org/8461/Which-psilocybin-mushrooms-grow-wild-in-my-area ; But this list is not 100%.

You can shoot pics through your microscope eyepiece, but a camera attachment is nice for making measurements. The item you speak of is either a reticle, or a stage micrometer.

Good starting point for microscopy. http://mushroomexpert.com/microscope.html

wow those are very good reading, thank you very much!

Also one question.  Are there mushrooms similar to @2 that don't bruise blue?  I really want try these Pan. cyan. but nervous about the other ones growing there too.

Those don't look like Pan cyanescens to me. He said bruising: none and I can't see any either. One or two look to have a discoloration, but I can't tell if it's bluing due to the lighting and me reading this on a iPod. If they bruised blue they are pan cyans, if not probably Panaeolus antillarum. The two big ones appear to be pan ants at least.

I see bruising on every one (species #2). It must be the ipod:shrug:

I increased the brightness on my iPad and it looks like blue bruising to me. It wouldn't hurt to find out. No Panaeolus is toxic.

Stay away from those Conocybes though (#3).

Dung-loving Deconica species methinks.

thank you for information!

Species 1 and 3 did not bruise.  Species 2 did bruise blue really a lot, but later when i get home to take pics the blue start getting dark and black.  I take prints but forget to post picture, sorry.

here are pictures of them now when dry, and also spore prints. Species #3 never dropped any spores, I am sorry.  I know it is very important, but i am happy with "Conocybe sp." until next time i go out.

These are the same mushrooms that i put in first post.

______________
Species #1

Caps dried DARK black!  very dark, even with big flash on 1/16 and shutter speed down to 25, it still look this black!

Only one cap drop prints, not a lot though.  They look purple like P. cubensis to me...?  but you tell better.  the picture shows actual color of print, not a lighting thing.

______________
Species #2

Cap dried light.  here are pics of the spores.  Pitch black.

______________
Species #3

some pics, they are still brown but no spores.

I edit here.

Thank you for that, that is very good to know!  But i think my ID is very terrible so i still very nervous to eat these "little brown mushrooms".  Would it be safe to assume blue bruise in the field = safe if it look like any of the above but with black spores?

#2 are definatly Pan/Cope cyans.

The 'black' was just extreme bluing, belive me these little babies blue hard and fast. Very potent Mushrooms.

1. interesting. save.
2. a mixed collection of Panaeolus cyanescens (blue bruisers) and Panaeolus papilionaceus i think.
-if they all bruised blue, then they are all Panaeolus cyanescens.
3. Conocybe sp. (needs microscopy)

also, in regards to Panaeolus cyanescens...the blue usually turns black in time.

Perfect thank you guys very much!

#1 only have those prints, and i am not skilled at growing.  If anyone wants the prints and is good at growing from dirty prints, message me.

#2 i actually put these together because they all blue, that how i organized that group.  Thank you all for telling me about the BIG blue and black, now i know not rotten.  Very good to know.

So I save these little guys for another, i read the dose of Pan. cyan., i find hard to believe so strong!  but i think start small with these friends is wise from what i read on internet.

Much respect to you all.

do you still have the specimens of #1?
i'm pretty sure it is Deconica, but i am having a hell of a hard time determining which species.

Yeah mate i consumed 17g of fresh cyans no tolerance and tripped almighty godlike balls. I was stuck to my lounge outside taing in the scenery of a bright summers afternoon of working hard!!
No where near my 30g fresh cube trip.
