Vancouver Island mushroom species
    #15659902 -

I am not sure if this has been posted on the shroomery before, but after a quick search I could not find it. I ran across this awesome checklist of species found Vancouver Island.  It was compiled by (SVIMS) the South Vancouver Island Mycology Society.

It also shows how often identifications of this species are made, and which months they grow in.  Great job SVIMS!

Enjoy!

woah! awesome! thanks for sharing this. I was gonna say it's probably best just to get out there and look because Van Island (as well as most of BC) has like a trillion species, but this list looks very in depth!

That pdf link is awesome! I wish I had something like this for my area. Someone in the coov needs to find psilocybe atrobrunnea which is listed as rare but it is still around in your area, they were found near Koksilah Ridge. Thanks for sharing this.

awesome link man! its wierd how there are species listed as rare and uncommon for the island are totally abundant here on the mailand.but it lists P semilanceata as uncommon there but i know its NOT!!

i am quite jealous of your mushroom society as well as the vancouver club. i was part of the fraservalley club and it was really a waste of time. your club has Ian involved, vancouver has Paul and lots of other good people. and my club has a bunch of old people picking maybe 5-6 edible species, all using outdated names and shit.

i dont consider my self to be that knowledgeable, but compared to those people i was considered an expert which i am not .i am interested and i study but i dont know that much .

i almost joined the vancouver mycological society but they wanted some ridiculous amount of money and a wild mushrooms based dish big enough to feed 40 or so before i could join....

Let's start our own! But we should have the policy: "No BMW owners allowed."

haha sounds good, but I am heading back up north to where even though this place is a mushroom hunters dream, I AM the mycological society. The only mushroom people even notice up there is Pine Mushrooms. the one mushroom I ignore. why fight to pick those when I have all the king boletes and chanterelles all to myself (along with some unmentionables)?

Cowichan valley has a bit of a history, as it's all dairy farms (Near Duncan). That said, most of the farmers there have been fending off shroom hunters since the early 80s. I think they may be listed as rare because the likelihood of a farmer letting anyone on their land to 'photograph' mushrooms has been obliterated by the illegitimate masses that flood to any known hunting spot the moment it appears on their radar. All IMO, of course.

big problem for the P semilanceata on the mainland is the farming is different now. the east indians have bought most of the farms and they are not dairy farmers or raise cattle or horses. but they convert all the pastures to blueberry farms. its a coin flip because blue berries get a top dressing of wood chips . and who doesnt like wood lovers.

Not sure if you'd sifted through mj's old site, but here's some busts that provide some insight into the hunting world of the 1980s here on the island.
