A disease is defined according to Merriam Webster as "a condition of the living animal or plant body or of one of its parts that impairs normal functioning and is typically manifested by distinguishing signs and symptoms."  Addiction fits this description perfectly.

Then irresponsibility should be called a disease, as well as laziness.
Addiction is caused by behavior that is controlled by the actor, calling it a disease is a lame way of absolving the weak minded and creating government jobs that cater to them.

You don't see major deficits in the frontal lobe and changes to the mesolimbic pathway after years of irresponsibility or laziness like you do with addicts, though.  There are neurochemical reasons why it becomes incredibly difficult for the addict to stop taking his or her drug of choice: addiction is a disorder of the brain just as any other neurological or psychiatric illness is, and the current mainstream scientific and medical experts agree.

Then they are lame as well, when there is something about yourself that you can change, even if there are impediments, you shouldn't be calling that initial condition a disease in my opinion, it's still a choice. Those medical people are just staking out the territory and filling it up with ninnies to farm.

It's a free choice to use the drug initially, but after many repeated exposures to the substance there are significant changes to the brain in areas that govern executive decision-making and what we call "willpower".  In other words, a free choice has become not so free anymore.

Most of my Afrikaner family has moved to Europe though because they don't trust the black government in South Africa.

Heavy shit.

I'd like to go back someday though. I mean, it's freaking Africa. It's actually really cool to have family who lives there. And I hear Zuma's doing a better job as PM than my family expected him to do. (In spite of his promise to his tribal constituency that he was clean, because he took a shower after banging that HIV-infected prostitute.)

The only thing that we should 'delcare a war on' is complete fucking idiots who try and dictate other peoples lives, a far bigger plague on humanity than drug addiction.

If only people like you were put down at birth, or at least didn't think they were so important and clever that they can attack a whole segment of society to comfort their own irrational fears. I will say this again, and would say it a hundred times over: Stupidity is the bane of human civilization, not drug addiction. People like you are the problem, not the solution.

Please just go neck yourself next time you think you know whats best for other people, you don't. You want to know why? Because you are an illiterate self important fuckwit.

P.s you should look into a career as a politician, I heard they are interested in people of your calibre and I think your intelligence and mentality would be a great fit for the job.
