I appreciate think source this time, but again this is one guy's take on addiction. Now granted he might be in a better position to make such a statement, but simple logic dictates that you can't get addicted from one hit. Wanting to do something again is not an addiction. Ofc addiction STARTS with someone wanting more, but the bottom line here is not everyone who wants more get's addicted. If someone has a beer or a joint for the first time and decides that he wants to do it again, does that make him addicted? No, and the same applies to Opium. Wanting more might very well lead to dependence on the drug, but wanting more by itself is not an addiction.

Huh?  You can get addicted from one hit, in that your first hit makes it more likely that you'll do it again, the next increases that probability, and so on until you're doing it every day.  Now, you won't necessarily get addicted from one hit, as evidenced by the fact that the majority of people who try heroin don't end up as junkies, but nevertheless it still is possible.

As with any other opiate, stimulants such as meth and cocaine, etcetera etc.

Coke is nowhere near as addictive as Heroin and neither is any other Opiate as far as I am aware of. We have already established Opium is not as addictive as Heroin. Meth on the other hand I would be inclined to agree with you. However Meth is more addictive because it changes the psychological reward system by triggering a cascading release of dopamine in the brain. It's not as addictive because of how good it feels like Heroin, at least not as much.

Again dude wanting to do it again isn't necessarily dependence on the drug, therefore it is not an addiction. No one takes a hit of Opium and then decides he needs it to get through his life every day. Opium doesn't fuck with your brain as much as Heroin. It's the chemicals that make all the difference. Most Opium addicts nowadays are Afghan children who have it given to them at the age of 3 by there parents and use it several times a day. That's how you get addicted.

I think you're slightly confused.  Heroin, when injected is more addictive than morphine because it crosses the BBB faster and therefore produces a more intense rush.  When taken orally, smoked, or snorted though, heroin is just as addictive as morphine, opium or any other opiate.  Also, any pleasurable drug produces a release of dopamine.  No matter how you twist it, taking that first hit of opium, heroin or coke significantly increases your risk of getting addicted.

No drug releases more dopamine than Heroin. I agree injecting Heroin is where most addictions come from, but even snorting it is more addictive than Opium and other opiates, hence the fact it is unofficially the worlds most addictive drug ( Officially the most addictive hard drug) with something like 30% of people who do it get addicted. Opium is significantly lower at like 11%. Obviously the first hit increases the chance of addiction, just like that first shot of Vodka increases the chance of addiction there but increasing the risk of being addicted is not the same as actually being addicted so one hit of Opium or one line of Coke alone does not addict anyone. The case is not always the same with Heroin.

Source?

As far as I know snorting heroin is just as addictive as snorting any other opiate.

I got it from Wiki, not always reliable:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Substance_dependence

It shows that Heroin tops the charts in terms of pleasure, psychological addiction and physical addiction. Cocaine actually tied Heroin for pleasure which was news to me but most Coke addicts are psychologically addicted.

As for the other source

http://blog.thegooddrugsguide.com/2311/the-6-most-addictive-substances-on-earth/

http://www.michaelshouse.com/drug-addiction/most-addictive-drugs-world/

Heroin by the stats is just far more addictive than other opiod.

Heroin tops that chart because of the combination of all of those factors: if you ignore physical addiction then I'd bet cocaine or meth would be more addictive than heroin.  In fact I think the recividism rate for IV methamphetamine is the highest of any other drug out there.

The other links you provided show absolutely no statistics or reasoning for their choices.  Again, IV heroin is more addictive due to it crossing the blood brain barrier faster than other opiates, but there's no scientific reason that I can see that would make H when taken via a different ingestion method more addictive than any other opiate.

Heroin tops the chart on all 3 things, pleasure, psychological and physical. Coke ties Heroin for pleasure which I find very surprising but is lower on physical and psychological factors. Even if you took away the physical aspect then Heroin is still more psychologically addictive. Now I'm not sure about Meth, that really is one hell of a drug. However as far as I am aware it is more of a physically addictive drug than physco.

The links I showed show the percentage of people who get addicted from taking a drug. That is there reasoning. I'm not entirely sure whether or not snorting Heroin is as addictive as any other opiate, I'll have to do some research on this one.

Did you attend NA or AA meetings?  They constantly repeat this bullshit that you can't do any other drugs because they'd inevitably lead you to abusing your DOC again.  In my experience and in the experience of other ex-junkies I know, they (and I) have been perfectly fine with drinking a few beers or smoking a joint every now and then without relapsing on opiates.  It might be a different story when it comes to hard drugs, though... I wouldn't do cocaine or meth.

I just can't man...and God knows I've fucking tried.  I wasn't just a heroin junkie though, so that might have something to do with it.

Meth is the fucking shit (except for the addiction part :smirk:).  I'd def put meth above heroin in both physical and psychological addictive-ness.  It's the best feeling ever, period.  Add to the fact that you can still function, until the insomnia catches up to you.  I'd put coke 3rd on my personal list...usually just went hand in hand with me getting hammered drunk.

Snorting heroin is pretty much the same as snorting an OC and other opiates, it's just a hell of a lot cheaper and you need much less.

I tried heroin and didn't get addicted after a dozen bags IV and intranasal.

8 years went by before I touched another opiate.

Fuck this go-nowhere debate.

Once again, all strong opiates are EQUALLY addicting. Some people prefer X opiate to Y opiate. That's a simple fact.

I'm sure as shit going to shoot H once in my life. Its the ultimate rush, like hunting a lion. Who knows what the fuck the result is gonna be? Thats part of the excitement!
It will forever differentiate me from the dead-eyed fucking pedestrian assholes milling about in their ordinary lives.
To dive into the outer limits of the human brain's ability to experience pleasure and then emerge, either a shattered ruin of a man or as a God; invincible.

I especially like the last part and how honest it is.  You'll either experience the ultimate euphoria and walk away from it all with fond memories of the rush, or you'll be masturbating in a dark alley somewhere while hustling spare change for your next fix.
