direct democracy
    #1519021 -

i was jsut curious who here thinks that the current democracies of the word could be replaced by direct ones..for example we have the congress  in  he US. if every month americans went to their post office or another place enterd in votes of current laws that are up for vote in congress...this would have to be used by computers closly watched for tampering...ok then based on the area the corresponding congressmen to that area would vote on wutevah law based on wut the people voted....wutcha think want to take over the country with me and start this???    o yea dont make fun of my spelling i suck at it and im too lazy for spell check.....PEACES

And if the majority wants to outlaw gays? Blacks? Asians? Blondes?

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ~ Adrian Rogers

america has never been and was never intended to be a democracy.

democracy is a fine word people like to use in association with words like 'freedom', 'liberty' and 'equality', but 'direct democracy' is nothing more than mob rule. in a pure democracy, the majority rules not because it is right, but because it is strong.

our constitution was designed to protect liberty, even when threatened by the majority. it created a government with the intent of protecting this constitution. feeling that the power of the state must in some way be derived from the will of the people, a measure of democracy was incorporated into our government.

democracy, by itself, is not a good thing.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis

"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniencies attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it." - Thomas Jefferson
