calvatia lilacina on agar
    #14946882 -

I saw these purple puffballs nearby and tried to grow it on agar.
One spore appeared to be germinating a few days ago, and it's growing quite fast now. I hope it's not mold germinating from the spore surface.

Part of the substrate becomes purple and white curly aerial mycelia grows on that part. Newly grown mycelia lies flat on thee substrate and are aligned in the radial direction. From the back of the agar plate, a ring pattern can be seen.

I'm having condensation problems that is quite annoying. As I don't have
a laminar flow hood, I don't want to open the lid.

I dont even know what it should look like  if you are trying to ask if it is contaminated than try here or if this is suppose to be a grow log you might be better off over here

You should have made the first transfer as soon as you saw growth.

I can't make heads or tails out of that picture.

There is a VERY HIGH probability that you are growing more than mycelium on that plate.

Transfer now, if there is any salvageable myc on that plate.

Then make the next transfer, as soon as you see any growth, in hopes of

"cleaning up" the culture.

That's not true at all. Cube mycelium happens to be white, this isn't the case with many other species. Do a little research before you act like you know everything.

I took a picture of it under microscope, I don't think mushroom mycelium grows like this. Also the purple thing looks like spores.

While C. lilacina spores are purple, there's still possibility that they
are the same. But mycelia of tissue cultures from lilacina fruitbodies looks different.

So now I think it's more likely to be mold.

You really need someone to show you, or prove to you the mycelium isn't always bright white? And why isn't that helpful information? As far as cobweb, it might be or it might not be. I'm not an expert on molds.

Thanks for the continued interested in this thread. But that's definitely not cobweb mold, though I'm not sure what it is. Was hoping for a mycologist to identify it for me..

more information about the species:

http://healing-mushrooms.net/archives/calvatia-lilacina.html

I'd bring this into the medicinal mush forum, since there more general mycologists there that can give you more valuable information.

Looking for bright white rhizo mycelium is probably not the best direction for this species.
