Spore syringes are hard to clean and can easily harbor bacteria. Going from MSS to grain is bad news. The reason every tek suggest agar is because you can use it to isolate the genetics you want away from the contamination. Learning agar should be everyone's first step IMO. It gives you a lot of room for mistakes compared to putting all your eggs in one basket...or spawn jar in this case.
