Discipline, abstainment, etc.

Resistance?
All these types of 'withholding'/'controlled' action, are they the only evidence of a will, or the only way to measure the magnitude or force of a will? Enjoyment, fulfillment of desire, observation of sensual expressions, etc. all of these actions are impulsive, a result of attraction and sort of 'just happen' of their own accord, no will required?

Can a being in meditation go with the flow, so to speak?

There's a question! I think so... I guess this is where moderation would come in. Total abstinence is ridiculous, I think... And nothing good is to ultimately come from incessant indulgence... this I know for sure.

Anyway the middle path is almost always beneficial.

when you pin yourself down, and squirm, and then writhe and wriggle, you waste a ton of energy.

abstention and discipline can go like that.

but this writhe-ing and wriggling can emerge without even holding yourself back, I mean I find it happens just from being exhausted or psychedelic drained - the next day can make you feel pretty undisciplined/wrecked.

without getting outright lazy I think it is good to rest -  do small chores, make good plans, and carry them out without much squirming over the next few days, till the next time...

Well," props" for an honest opinion, Icelander... I wasn't sure if you had it in you.

It'd be nice if you could have delved somewhat into WHY you consider Magnum Opus to be "hot air" instead of stating it as if 'that's what it is', you know? Be a team player once in a while. :wink:

I can't speak for Icelander, but it seems to me that our whiny, neurotic, delusional species has done a good job so far of degrading ourselves below the level of other animals in many ways.  That's not to say that we don't have redeeming qualities, but thinking that we have some divine purpose besides fucking and dying is not very redeeming IMO. More like dishonest.

This I don't so much agree with. At one point in my life I sure would have... I was once a hardcore, religion-rejecting atheist. Then one night I had a 6g mushroom trip in silent darkness (ala McKenna) and experienced 'god'... Or, at least, the conscious, underlying web of life that permeates the Universe. I wasn't looking for a "god"... but what ever it is sure found me.

Not sure what you mean by that last sentence.

My point is that people have all sorts of experiences on drugs.  Doesn't mean much at all imo.  Been there lots of times.
