Difference between a scientist and a spiritual person?
    #14731868 -

They are one in the same, IMO.
Both seeking truth, and both creating hypothesis of truth.
- Example of a truth: when you have a set quantity and you add to it, the quantity increases.

The flaw in the spiritual person is that they preach a possibility as the only true way, possibilities should not be preached they should be suggested. By not taking into account all the possibilities as a possibility, is when one becomes ignorant.

A scientist should also open their mind up to the possibilities, or they will dwell in ignorance as well.

Yes, I just thought of that, haha, one should embrace both science and spirituality.

The difference is one deals with spirits and one deals with science.  "Truth" or "truth" is irrelevant to labeling either - either may or may not seek it.

Ghost hunters use science to deal with spirits.

I can define a scientist. Can you define a spiritual person?

Spirituality includes morals, science is more analyzation of what is here now.

You could also say that spirituality = mental and science = physical

A spiritual person is one who entertains the possibilities of the unknown.

Science and spirituality is different on many levels..

Mainly when I think of being spiritual I think of it being based on ones opinions.. Science is based on experiments and trial and error

Spirituality is gibberish with no real meaning. A spiritual person is a blithering idiot who bases his/her life on false assumptions that cannot be tested.

Actually Im going to propose a change in this thread.
Inspired by some dinner party talk I had recently.

a woman was telling me how science bored her as an area of study. She felt like it was only significant if you are making technologies. Otherwise, she just felt like she was being told theories.

philosophy on the other hand is a realm of study exploring possibilities. Philosophers determine all possibilities and give terms to different realms of possibility. They seek to find inconsistencies and thus impossibiliites.

Science derived from philosophy because it was found that some possibilities could be modelled and made into tangible reality.

But I believe science really does come down to technology. Technology IS the main drawcard for science. Whenever it comes down to it, a pro-sciencer will point to all the technology we have and say 'without science youd just be a blithering cave man'.

I think that the problem is when scientists become metaphysical. Scientists have no role to talk about the expanse of possibility because scientific theories are not complete. Scientists can only talk about the extent to which their theories correctly predict changes in the physical world.

there is nothing for a scientists to say when discussing anything 'supernatural' except to say that some things have better scientific explanations (eg weather caused by heat and chemicals and pressure rather than gods). In some cases (like the case of consciousness, or perhaps of 'God'), science cannot say anything because science has no (and might not be able to create) a theory of these things.

Spiritual people might be philosophical but usually 'spiritual people' are not really possibility orieted  - they USUALLY abide by some teaching from a religion or guru. Usually they follow the teaching of their holy book or their spiritual master, and try to fit everything into this way of seeing the world. In this way they are dogmatic like scientists but dont actually have any reasoning behind their dogmas (unlike scientists who at least have created technology with their theories)
