Spirituality and 'stuff"
    #692931 - 06/21/02 06:06 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

It seems that when people look for a spiritual experience, they always look for something awe inspiring and magical, something that goes beyond their wildest dreams. There is this steriotype that goes around : god, white light, holy, innocent, and etc. In other words people wait for something unbelieavble to happen, and they can just imagine what it will be like, b/c of the instilled steriotype.

But I find something wrong with this:
Everyone travels their own journey in life, and a spiritual experience or awakening will be manifested in different ways for different people.

In conculsion I personally believe that everything that makes you smile, cry, sing, jump, and everything that doesn't is spiritual. Infact I believe that everything in life is a spiritual experience worthy of remmemberence and acknowledgment. Everything that you do advances you in your soul's journey. So, next time you eat some mushrooms or meditate, don't wait for god to talk to you, or to fly amongst the angels. Just laugh, cry, enjoy good friendship, do some cool things, etc. And at the end of it all, reflect, and acknowledge that your fun time which brought you extacy, bliss, mellincolin, or euphoria is infact a great spiritual moment in your life. If you think that a fun time with your friends isn't spiritual, then keep waiting for that special moment to come by, but it probably wont b/c you are looking for the wrong thing. The end.

Just what I thought of last night in the comforts of my porch.

I agree, most people say they are looking for that deep spiritual connection because they are running from the joys and pains of "mundane" life. Some people use drugs to obliterate these events from their reality, make them "more" interesting. Others simply search for different experiences, and things such as drugs or spiritual events are other types of experiences. Of course humans are clever people and to much cleverness just leads to more blindness, and most of us aren't careful or want to be careful about how honest we really are about things..

addendum - spiritual things don't have to be so psychedelic i agree, i turn to nature for my spirituality and the most affirming, satisfying and spiritual thing is being in nature, feeling it as all things, apprecaiting it, its fulfilling on all levels and isn't the form of a radiate white being above in the heavens. but like you said, its all different for each person.

I agree with you. Your spirit resides in the moment, whatever the moment may be. Sometimes, the most mundane repetitive "boring" tasks can bring a deep contemplative spiritual sense if you are willing to see it. A sense of the miraculous can be achieved by merely looking at the sky (or even at your toes). How you mentally approach something is often a greater determinant of what you get out of it spiritually than anything else.

To live is spiritual.
