Bob asked me how Jane would go about cultivating from a wild Ps. Cyan print without working with agar.
Can you help me help him help her out?

If you dont have agar to work with then i would use half the print on a
jar of grain or 2 and the other half in a honey water tec adding h2o2 after germination if there are any impuritys.Good luck with it.

Well, Bob an Jane I know that when I picked a pound of them last year I dumped all the spore prints I didn't sale and all the sporewater from rinsing that pound onto a dumptruck full of woodchips that got dumped in mah yard. Well it's a year later an still not completley colonised(about 3/4 or more). So now I've gotta move an I'm stuck with a couple hundred pounds of spawn thats just getting bigger as we speak. So I hope to expand with alder and get some real fruits All that spawn an all I got was an oz or 2. ALOT of aborts an imature and some were growing into tha ground! I'm thinking this is because of the high sap content. I used mostly pine cause in was free.. but if I expand to alder.. AaahhhhIcan'twait...

The only problem with that is:

In the time that the cyan spores germinate in the H.W. so will any contams. AFAIK - H2O2 will only kill ungerminated spores.

I have seen practically sterile prints made from wild specimens. This is about the only chance you would have.

Wild prints always have a higher risk of being contaminated , so doing agar work is beneficial to issolating a "clean" isolation .
Agar work is not a scary as some may make it sound , just requires being as clean as humanly possible , patience , agar and petri dishes .
Good Luck
PS If you try agar , hravest spores from the center of the print , they are more likely to be contam free .

I keep looking out for some wild. Got a buddy been ripped off twice trying to buy a sample. If one gets fresh pure wild culture one could end up with a really strong strain. Bravo!

You can add H202 to liqui-germ? I use the karo mix, but didn't know you could add H202 after germ to clean? How much?  When one of those liquid jars goes cruddy - oh are they ugly and scary looking! :shocked:

I was actually wondering the same thing concerning some Wild Cubensis prints that I have. I don't have agar or petri and can't be f'd using it. Isn't there another way?

What are my chances if I just pretended the prints were sterile? None?

I also have a wild Copelandia Cyanescens print. Screwed if I know what I'm going to do with it though. I could't grow Copes even if the print was sterile. :smile:

germinate spores on cardboard .
what i do is, soak a 1/4" square of egg carton, put it in a jar and pc it .
dab the cardboard on the spore print to pick up some spores, and put it back in the jar . after spores germinate drop it into karo water with h2o2 .
i've found when you use h2o2 in liquid culture, mycelium does'nt grow like a cloud .
instead you will see little white specks floating around, and sometimes
will look like smoke .
don't worry it is healthy mycelium .
