Holy Guardian Angel.

I think I'd pretty much agree with the author Mike Howard, about the idiosyncratic work of Crowley. Crowley took this term from The Sacred Magick of Abramelin the Sage, (of which a modern translation with corrections has recently been published). The ritual of Abramelin takes 6 months of preparation, and a room with an adjoining porch that can be converted to a mini desert, etc. At any rate, the Holy Guardian Angel can have its parallels in the Jewish notion of a good impulse (Yetzer Tov) as well as the Voudun notion of one's 'good angels' (Ti Bon Ange, and Gros Bon Ange - little good angel and great good angel). Interestingly, the Voudun terms are almost identical in concept to the Egyptian Ka and Ba. The point is, that Crowley insisted that this Holy Guardian Angle was not "an abstraction" of the human self, but an 'external' being. I have a problem with internal and external when it comes to the non-subtantial reality of consciousness. Intersubjectivity and telepathy illustrate this.

In Parfitt's Qabalism, the Holy guardian Angel is the Higher Self, or the Lesser Countenance [of God], which is like saying the 'indwelling Christ.' This is our Higher Self. It is the "spiritual man" of St. Paul, or the transition of identification when one sacrifices one's egoic mind in favor of the "mind of Christ" which has its 'seat' in the Heart Center, not the Brain Center. So, when Paul wrote, "I live, yet not, I; Christ liveth in me" (KJV), there is the experience of becoming "a new creation." This is being "born again" in a Christian mystical context, and in Qabalah, 'piercing the Veil of Paroketh.' This is when the personality attributed to the lower 4 spheres in the Tree of Life, or the first three chakra motives become transcended (transcended and included in a cosmic identity).
