WBS help
    #1362586 - 03/10/03 08:24 AM (21 years, 23 days ago)

My friends cat just got a pressure cooker and is trying to do WBS. The cat has followed 6T WBS Method tek to the letter. However, after pressure cooking the first quart jar for 90 min the cat noticed that upon removal from the cooker, the seed still seemed to have the same appearance as it did before cooking. The cat shook the jar while hot anyways and placed in the oven to cool. While the seed expand and encopmass the rest of the jar while cooling. (Filled 3/4 full before cooking) Or is the cat fucked? Also the quart jar had to be layed at a 45 degree angle with a metal pan proping it up. An extra 2 layers of aluminum foil were also added for protection to the jar from the water. This was done because the pressure cooker is to samll to do quarts standing straight up. The cat is also doing some pint jars that do fit right now. My friends cat would love any feedback/tips as to what the hell went wrong or reassurance that everything is fine

Why do you expect the seed to expand in the PC? Expansion occurs as the seed absorbs water during the 12-18 hour pre-soak.

Yeah, it's not supposed to expand during the PC-ing. I just pc'ed some bird seed and it didn't expand and it's swarming with mycelium after only 3.5 days. I've already shook it once. You need the space to shake it up, that's why you only fill it 3/4.

Not to worry. The only difference I noticed after pc-ing was that the wbs turned slightly darker in the heat, like it had been baked. But it's colonizing like a mofo.

Thanks to the Umbrella bank for the eq print, it's given 'er.

The cat thought it would expand because of the pics from here. As long as what you have told the cat is true, then he should be alright. Thanks for the help

Okay I looked at that and I might be able to conjecture the difference and explain a thing or two.

He only rinsed the seeds and then added water before pressure cooking. The tek I follow you rinse the seeds and then let them soak overnight. This does two things: it allows the seeds to absorb water and it stimulates any gymnospores on the seeds into a germination period, making them easier to kill with the high temperatures in the PC.

If you followed his tek perfectly then you didn't soak, instead you let the seeds soak up water in the pc. Personally I think he used different jars to show what they were like after pc-ing, either that or they grew when they absorbed water in pc. However if you put water in and then pc'ed you should have similar results. Having never done it that way I can't say.

Anyone else??

You are correct. In the original post it was stated that 6T's WBS tek was used, which incorporates a pre-soak. The tek in the link that was posted does not.

well the cat followed 6T's Tek but was only looking at the other tek for the pictures. he realizes they were not done the same way but for some reason he was under the impression that the wbs would expand. The cat knows better now.
also the seed was only soaked 12 hours then drained for an hour and a half

Man, I assume it is innoculated in the last 24 hours.... wait two days and come back if there is not sign of germination......which would blow my mind....... or you got a shitty syringe.... or you got a comtam straight off the bat.

GL.

sounds like your doing good .
the biggest problem i've had with WBS is water content .
some brands seem to grow faster then others .
other then that WBS rocks .

the cat is innoculating in a glovebox. He was told 1-2 cc was the right amount to use. Is this correct?
