Fucking WBS
    #3394138 - 11/21/04 08:43 PM (12 years, 20 days ago)

Ok I have failed 100% my last two grows  I grow in the winter when the temps in my grow room can be kept at the correct temps. Well I used to only soak my WBS overnight then load into jars and PC. Well reading all summer off and on I see that soaking is not were you get the water into the WBS, simmering is.

Well the last two grows I simmered and they failed first was contamed second had no growth.

I think the first grow was to wet second was to dry :frown:

Should I simmer my WBS?

Soak your WBS in water overnight, drain and rinse, simmer 45 minutes, drain and rinse well with warm water, allow to drip dry for 45 minutes.

yes you should simmer but, the reason it failed is becuase the WBS grains didnt germinate, which is one of the main points of the overnight soak. soak = germinate and hydration to some degree, simmer = loading the grain with the maximum water amount it will carry

What temp is simmering, maybe thats the issue. I herd on a cooking show simmering temps were different depending on what you are simmering.

Each folk to a differing stroke. But, IMHO --No need to SIMMER WBS. Just let it SOAK a bit longer at room temp. That germinates endospores inside the WBS. You can actualy let WBS soak until you see a VERY few seeds actualy begin to sprout. Then, rinse, drain, jar up & PC quick.

There is no exact rule of thumb on soak time (as moisture content in all dry WBS varies - greatly). You just have to get a feel for it & find out what works for you.

Point of FACT. A well soaked WBS expands 20 to 25%. IT does so, because it is absorbing MOISTURE. Once it stops expanding, it carries the maximum moisture load - possible. Then, it sprouts.

This WBS Tek works.

Sounds like your hitch may be in PC'ing the jars, to long, or short?

I wish there was a "Answer" I'm going to give up simmering, I have never had bad result with WBS until I tried to simmer.

I GOT IT! We need a "Pellet" to grow shrooms on. All of them would be the same, there would be a set amount of soak time. they would be maybe the size of crack corn. interesting :stoned:

Ive been doing ALOT of WBS lately and found that EVERY Time i simmer like recomended i get BAD results. SLow, little or NO colonization.

I found best results are to soak 24 hours rinse and PC give best

Why would simmering WBS lead to contams if you're PCing it afterward?

I don't understand.

How much verm, and what advantages does he see with this? Easier shaking then with jetdry? Faster colonization due to more air space? etc?

If you soak your WBS for 12-24 hours-you allow for the endospores to germinate(not the grain itself),which in turn, makes it easier to kill them(endospores) when you PC.

When you simmer(15-30 minutes "depending")you are forcing as much water into the grains as they can hold without bursting. When I do this, using my tek,my jars are perfect every time. You just have to play around with the "times",15 minutes for some,30 for others.I simmer for 20 minutes then drain for 20 minutes and have never had a problem.

Pc for 60-90 minutes = I pc for 75 minutes @ 15psi.

The verm is to help hold water..alot of people soak and simmer grains then after straining pour some verm in and mix it around until it gets the rest of the water soaked up and sticks to the grains well. How much can vary and people usually eyeball it. Some put in a certain amount though. I've heard of anywhere from 5-50% verm.
