In search of the profound
    #13601701 -

I feel like i need to discover some profound idea in order to fully live my life.

i wish i didn't have this desire...because it is holding me back from making the changes that i need to make.

there probably isn't any idea that is profound enough to satisfy me.

How is it holding you back?

why there is reality and patterned, law-like consistency at all, rather than noise or non-reality is not a question physics answers. It's a question physics presupposes an answer to in order to provide other answers.

I have an bit of knowledge that, if you could fully grasp it, would change your life completely in this moment. But you won't be able to.

No offense, but IMO that sound's like self-deception. There is no missing "profound idea" holding you back from making the changes you feel "you need" to make except laziness and/or the wish to remain in some well-known comfort zone.

One possible idea, profound or not. Stop thinking "I need to". And start thinking "I want to", and "I will". It's not productive to get into a habit of feeling there are things you "must" or "need" to do. There are such things of course, but the ultimate reason you "must" do them is there are things you WANT. I.e. you "must" make your homework, but only because you WANT to stay in college, or maybe you don't want that but then you want to please your parents or whatever. Claim responsibility for your actions.

you've definitely hit the nail on the head here.

laziness and to stay in my well known comfort zone are definitely what is holding me back...but the search of something profound is what i think will inspire me to bring me out of this funk...

maybe i just don't know what i really want.

to add to this

OP, for much of my life, I was searching for the profound

feeling like I had to find it before I could properly "do" anything of true worth

so I searched vehemently to discover just who and what I am

until I realized more and more...I already am

I think that ultimately, that is the profound thing you are searching for, whether you realize it or not

it was holding me back, and still does from time to time
you can't wait to begin living. You are already alive, and growth is a life-long process.

just be yourself

you can't wait on finding all the answers...you're never gonna have them. There is no use waiting on "being"

learn to enjoy the things that make you "you," and work on the things you don't like starting right now. No revelation, no matter how profound is going to bring an instantly gratifying change to what is wrong in your life. It might give you more inspiration or clarity, but all work is done in a "now" and the results are often not instant. Might as well get started on something

I'll also share a vision I had on mushrooms...because at one point in my life I felt that mushrooms were the only thing I was really lacking experience with, I felt like it was something I NEEDED familiarity with, and this held me back in a lot of ways. So one day I finally took some mushrooms...

I saw myself walking down the path of knowledge...and when I got to the end, it was like a joke

because I was already there

which is not to say I'm already filled with all the knowledge...just that I was deceiving myself, looking for the wrong thing, because at the end of the road was myself

you want to know one of the most profound revelations I've ever had? it was certainly the big answer to the big question

"let go, and be"

you miss a lot when you're trying to figure out what this moment is "supposed" to be...

and profound revelations will fade, and like me you will be back to waiting for that perfect inspiration or clarity to begin doin thangs...

(i'm a little zonked at the moment so I don't know how well I expressed anything, but hopefully OP you can find something useful here)

actually...wow...this post was the inspiration I needed today more than I've needed it in a very long time
because I just remembered and realized how much I was focusing on what was missing from right now as opposed to what I can actually do right now

which is thangs

Might want to try meditation, but there's still plenty of time left for earthly desires and the mundane. I think there are profound aspects of life to be found, but it's just as fair to say they find us. No use in waiting around.

Too hard according to you. So you want some people to be themselves, but not others? Please clarify.

Don't put too much into it.

Once you find the answer, you'll realize it wasn't as profound as you thought.

I agree with what Amuzkat said.

Drop the idea of truth as a necessary correspondence. Aletheia is the Greek concept (and Goddess) of truth that preceded Veritas, the institutionalization of truth.

Wiki:

"Aletheia (ἀλήθεια) is the Greek word for "truth", and like the English word implies sincerity as well as factuality or reality. The literal meaning of the word ἀ–λήθεια is, "the state of not being hidden; the state of being evident".

It is a significant concept in the study of philosophy and epistemology because defining truth as aletheia, instead of as correspondence or coherence, represents a clear departure from nearly every philosophical tradition since the Ancient period.

In the early to mid 20th-century, Martin Heidegger renewed attention in aletheia and developed the notion into the form recognized today; a renewed attempt to understand Truth. Heidegger gave an etymological analysis of the term, and drew out an understanding of aletheia as 'disclosedness'; cf. Lethe as forgetfulness.

Thus, aletheia is distinct from the more well-known conceptions of truth as statements which accurately describe a state of affairs (correspondence), or statements which fit properly into a system taken as a whole (coherence). Instead, Heidegger focused on the elucidation of a meaning of truth that is pre-Socratic.

Chiefly, then, aletheia is the truth that first appears when something is seen or revealed. It is to take out of hiddenness to uncover. It is not something that is connected with that which appears. Allowing something to appear is then the first act of truth; for example, one must give attention to something before it can be a candidate for any further understanding, for any understanding of space it must first somehow appear. Untruth, then, is something concealed or disguised."

No idea profound enough for you?

How about this, get outside and enjoy yourself.
