There always was drugs and organized crime in Mexico.  You could go over to Juarez in the 70's and go to 'the shooting gallery' and buy junk, coke, meth, and do it up right there on old car seats...and lay around and nod or go back across the border with balloons.  Good stuff too.  No one fucked with you, and they knew exactly when the raids where coming.  Now it is out of control because of the fucked-up war on drugs, and the profits are so lucrative that it isn't going to be stopped.  Basically the US has forced their view of drugs on the rest of the world, hell or be damned.  Our government doesn't give a fuck, the killing is not happening in OUR country.

where i live east valley about 1/2 the people driving run from accidents cause they are should not be here... good living.

My proposal: Make immigration easier and open to everyone, take down the fence, and remove the border crossings and the border patrol, and remove any laws making non-citizens "illegal". Ta-da! No more illegals.

I'm fine with requiring someone to speak English as a condition for becoming a citizen.  I also think that farm workers don't have much need to speak English, nor should they need to become citizens in order to do their work.  They should have some program of work visas for farm workers so they can stay in the country while working the fields and freely cross the border to return to Mexico when the season is over.  The work visa can also offer free English classes.  Upon graduating from the English program and working the fields for a certain number of years, they should be given permanent resident status, and a path to citizenship.

Yes, I'm aware that many languages and dialects are spoken in the US, including homegrown ones like Creole along with the languages of immigrants.  I'm fine with families speaking in their native tongue to one another and within their communities, but English should be the public language.  It is the language of political debates and public discourse.  Therefore, if you don't understand English, it is very difficult to engage properly in the political process, which is one of the key elements of citizenship.  I don't expect everyone to be fully fluent in English, but there should be a minimum level of fluency for participation in our society.

I concur. Like I said, coming into a foreign country which speaks another language and insisting everyone else learn mine is ridiculous. But if you want to speak your native to folks from your country, that's fine.

any undocumented worker is eligible to receive a tax id card, which allows them to work as independent contractors and pay income taxes to the irs.

the solution is in changing foreign policy and the way we deal with issues in the americas. (the war on drugs probably the number one reason, followed by the neo-liberal agenda of free trade, which steals from the poor and gives to the rich.)

Are you fucking serious? I do not need some ... saying a bunch of retarded Spanish-speaking illiterates are more productive than me, while I am working three jobs and goign to college just to stay alive. And before you fucking get another word off, I am now roofing houses (with a group 100% American and ready to beat the shit out of any illegals we come across) I have built fence and harvested fields. I work as a care assistant for the disabled in the community, and gave a speech at a disability caucus last year about how we can improve the lives of the disabled. When i get my degree and leave this idiot-country, I hope your precious Mexicans can maintain your internetworking, because I sure as hell wont be helping as soon as I have the money to leave.
