so if gypsum adds calcium and sulfur, what is in coir that makes it a good bulk sub ?

The grain provides most of the nutrition. The coir mostly is there for texture and moisture retention.
But the myc does seem to like it.

i believe the main purpose of gypsum is to balance the PH.

not add nutrients.

a quick SEARCH in google, will tell you anything you could want to know about coco coir, nutrient-wise.

It's all experimental, there's no sort of Daily RDA for shrooms.

And you can't grow them hydroponically, btw.

It's because it's coconut fiber, and mushrooms just love coconuts.

doc t i believe in an earlier thread u asked what people use gypsum for.

i beleive rr said it adds calcium and sulphur which helps with fruit body health. also it helps with sustaining ph level.

also the only reason mushies grow is because people experiment ?

their is no rda of nutrients that would allow u to get the best results for your efforts ?

this cannot be true.

the reason i ask about coir is i just want to know whats in it and if its lacking i would like to know what i can add for it to be the best bulk sub i can make.

add calcium as chitin,  most mushies cell walls have a high amount of calcium

It's kinda hard to tell exactly what nutrients provide the best results, I mean, humans don't have a list of specific nutrients they need to eat in order to grow the fastest and most potent - all we got was the food pyramid.

Not sure what nutrients they are, but have heard "RR" say that coir is every bit as nutritious as poo, and poo is the natural habitat of cubensis. If this were true, then we wouldn't need additives with coir???
  I use additives personally.

Oh come on, we all know that's not real.

Point is - not much is known about fungi, therefore it is hard to pinpoint exactly which nutrients do what.

humans could have an iron defieciency, potassium deficiency, vitamin a,b,c,d , deficiency and have all sorts of health problems. couldnt your mushies then have deficiencys and have all sorts of "health" problems as well ?

so what should we give our mushies to not allow these "health " problems.

humans don't necessarily eat the most natural, balanced foods though, so it's easy to develop a deficiency. Just give them some steroids - I have some pure B12 I've been wanting to play around with on my mushies/agar just for the hell of it. Not sure what'll happen.

There's a lot of ways to grow healthy mushrooms. They're more like pigs than people in that respect.
