Coco coir typically isn't a substrate material, its for the case layer. I supose you could crumble the cakes and put it in coir just like straight vermiculite. Is that what you intend to do?

I havn't seen any posts of people's pets doing a coco coir substrate. And I grovel in awe of mycotek's grows that use coco to cover a bulk substrate.

Mostly it is used to cover the substrate providing moisture control and contamination protection.

If your spawing your cakes or grain then spawn them to straw or poo or a combination.  Use your coir as a casing layer.  Add some verm. and oyster shell or hydrated lime for better results.

My friend has jars colonising now using Coco coir/BRF/TAZ. It seems the same as verm/BRF. He uses 1 cup BRF to 2 cups of coir. he told me that coir gets cobweb mold pretty easy so steralize it good. hopefully it produces well.

Are you just trying to colonize just the coco coir? Because I read on another forum that there's no nutrients, and it won't do much.

just lace the coco with nutrition and some whole grain. Straw works great for making the substrate have a more manure type texture. Only difficult thing about this substrate is that moisture content is hard to get right. When you think its dry enough try and get more moisture out.
