?? about Coco Substrate
    #1082635 - 11/24/02 10:45 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Hopefully some of u guys have used the coco substrate.. Anywayz, I used a QT jar of colonized birdseed to innoculate a dozen 1/2 pint jars worth of coco substrate.. They have mycellium all over in a places, it has been 7 days and they don't really seem to be colonizing any futher, but there is still places of brown (coco) around in parts of the jars.. The problem is, Mycellium is growing out the tops of jars through the filters. It says it should only take 5 - 7 days for full colonization.. Obviously since its coming through the filters, the mycellium must be very thick on top of the cakes, what should i do?

well, as far as i know+experienced, coco coir is NOT a substrate to grow shrooms on, but a casing material.

this means that there is NO point of innoculating jars of coco coir, because no nutrients are there. But its a fine casing material so the mycelium is growing on it, in order to find a place to fruit or seek for more nutrients.

Coco coir is a casing alternative of verm or soil mix. Imagine innoculating jars of verm or soil. Whats the point?
