My Bonsai - Help :D

Hey all,

Acquired her 2 weeks ago, no idea how old. She was actually mostly yellow/brown and extremely untrimmed. I trimmed her up and forced some light on her at 24 hours daily. She's looking great now. I am having a hard time finding any good info on bonsai's besides the basics. Seems most people Veg these for 12 hours a day.  Should I switch to 12 or keep it at 24 ? Any other tips and/or concerns would be GREATLY appreciated.

Nothing is wrong, just want to figure out the ideal hours per day to veg her at.

it looks like a juniper or may be a a black pine. both are the out door type which would be fine under 12/12. or just put the plant out doors and  it shud be fine

Thanks for the ID, was thinking it was a juniper also.
Only spot I have outdoors is the patio and the sun never hits it. Kinda dark there to be honest. Also I have a strawberry plant there that brings in a lot of bugs. So I am going to keep it inside.
I was thinking of re-potting it with new soil and then tossing it in my Veg Tent under the Metal Halides. But the tent runs 24/7.
I will keep it in the same spot then and pick up a timer(story of my life it seems) and run it 12/12 then.

it wont hurt it one bit to give it 24 hours of light bro,and it will probably grow a lot better too.

i have a juniper bonsai outside. its doing great. see?

not as green as yours but its not inside plant. i try to grow mine as close to nature.

which sometimes doesn't seem to pan outbut i try.

Yea that one looks nice outside. This one will have to stay inside thou.
So lets lets keep the light on 24 hours?
Trying to obtain some fast growth here. Should I do a super trim of all the greenery to encourage some branch growth ?
Any light preference ?

Thinking of  getting the domain extremebonsaigrow.com ( or something similar) to monitor the progress hehe.

i have had good results with trimming by hands. i read that is good somewhere and i have not stopped since.

plants will not grow here in the summers heat. in spring they really take off but in the summer just stall.

i say, if you the indoor room, give it 24/7.

it should do just fine.

If I remember correctly bonsai are supposed to be grown outdoors.

I actually was going to provide a winter environment for it, wasn't sure how to do it but figured I'd do it in the fall. Was still looking into this.

Yeah, bonsai need to be outside for the majority of the time. People often buy a nice specimen, take it home, leave it indoors and then wonder why it dies. They need to be grown outdoors for long lived, healthy plants. There is no way around this as far as I know.

I don't know if anyone grows them under HID lights but I wouldn't suggest a 24 hour photo period as the plant needs a dark period to complete important functions that keep the plant healthy. Maybe something that replicates the longer days of Summer would be more ideal and this would then give the plant a dark period to complete these processes.
