Re: More reasons why philosophy is dead. [Re: Noteworthy]

Ultimatly what you are talking about is that the system through which philosophers communicate through is anything but objective and so we suffer as philosophers from arguments that are meaningless. I think you als mention that making up for such a language would be impossible because of the emotional influences that words acrue.

It is the major reason why philosophy cannot be 'learnt' about and thus why books are not the best form of philosophy; simply put, you cannot even verify what the author means about his/her varied and complex thoughts.

I've stopped reading books and disagreeing/agreeing with them, I use them as a place to simply bounce new ideas. I never suscribe or pledge allegiance to any philosophical system of thought like many people do...Its a complete waste of time because communication is so limited in its objectivity and that is the very essence of language, an objective field of exchange through which we can sort out differences and relate through.

There is no true wrong or right other than what you believe. That has little to do with 'philosophy' as a whole. In fact it is through philosophy that we can realise that statements like 'person x SHOULD do y' or 'Z is WRONG' are not matters that can be determined in any objective way. They are merely beliefs. But they should still be taken seriously. It is merely undercurrents of the Enlightenment that still linger, that tell us that the subjective has no worth next to the objective

There are several statements from philosophy that are axiomatically true.  Both are first order types of knowledge.

1.  From descriptive knowledge we get the statement, "I exist"  (not the only statement from descriptive knowledge that is true, but it serves as one example).
2.  From prescriptive knowledge we get the statement, "One ought to desire what is good for oneself."

Both statements are derived objectively and are self-evidently true.

Not sure how your post relates to your quote.

But I think for the second one you can just as much say that 'good' is what we desire for ourselves

Otherwise I do not think it is nearly as strong as (1)

The distinction lies between real goods and apparent goods.  We may desire something that injures us and call that good.  It isn't.  And please don't bring up asinine examples as a counter claim.  I have no desire to convince anyone of anything, but I do like the truth.

If you desired pain then I think you probably would say it is good... and youd be right because good/bad depends on your point of view
