yeah why would i believe anything in the bible, i don't see that belief helping me.  same with history books, most of the stuff was probably recorded wrong, most of what happened probably happened in a completely different way in reality

Im pretty sure god knows what a day is... A day is a day.  Its not a year, its not a billion years.

What kind of deceptive creator would use the word 'day' to mean a day everywhere but in the beginning of genesis where day somehow means billions of years.

I know, this really bothered me. Not enough to get into the conversation though.

Its funny, that is actually one of the mantra's of young earth creationist ken ham.  There is video of him saying, to his congregation "Repeat after me, 'A day is a day'".  And I couldn't help but think, yea I agree with that.  A day does mean a day, it doesn't mean 3 billion years.  (of course that is where our agreement ends as he takes that fact to mean that the earth is 10000 years old, and I take it to mean the bible account is wrong)

I'm just so used to hearing that.
"God's concept of time and ours are totally different. Our whole life in God's eyes could really only be a few minutes."

I actually asked my mom what she believes about dinosaurs the last time I saw her and she said "It's all about God's time."

It's just a way of disguising "Well, I don't know the real answer to that. So I made this one up and it sounds good."

Yea, Im sure he does

something most fundies get real antsy about when you tell them that

Alright so maybe I can let this epic mis-communication of days vs. billions of years go, but that doesnt cover up the insanely lame rainbow theory...

Whether it was intentional or not I always thought the idea that a day represents a thousand years (or whatever other set of time) was pretty interesting.

Plus God didn't write the Bible so he wasn't the one being deceitful.

Assuming the Bible is supposed to not only tell a story but define a set of morals I don't see why it's so impossible or wrong for it to have metaphorical stories.

:handth:

If more christians could see the bible as a set of stories
that try to set an example of how to live in a civil society
rather than cold hard fact that cant be interpreted any way but literally

then I would not have a deep seated hatred for that religion

maybe a day on another planet in another solar system could take as long as 3 billion of our years? God is an alien.  :feelsweirdman:

My dad thinks dinosaur bones were put in the earth as a test of faith

My mom thinks a guy named Noah actually put two of every species of animal in a boat (despite my telling her that there are literally MILLIONS, if not BILLIONS of land-inhabiting species, and that a boat made of wood could not POSSIBLY accommodate that number of animals.  Her response is, "Through God all things are possible"

The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence?

Well whale sharks would do okay outside of a boat during a major flood I would imagine.  I'm just thinking land based species.

I mean....there are populations of species that number less than 50 in the whole world that live in the way back ass range of caves, too many insects to count....it's just completely impossible.  Did Noah have time to travel across the whole globe before this flood happened in his GIANT FUCKING BOAT and visit all the little nooks and crannies EVERYWHERE to find two of EVERYTHING?  I mean....come on.  In this supposed time people in Biblical areas didn't even know about the existence of SEVERAL continents.  If Noah really did get everything from everywhere, you'd think he might have documented that the world is round, there's seven continents, and humans would have had a much greater understanding of their environment.

Also, after he'd accomplished all this he'd have to put everything back where it was, requiring a second trip around the globe (and across huge masses of land, mind you).

The whole thing is just recockulous.

Interesting thought on the water species. Wouldn't the salt water creatures be compromised by the fresh water rains that supposedly flooded the earth?

And the insect thing, wouldn't there be deadly spiders, animals(Gila monster) etc. on that boat biting people?
