Goddamn you OP,I I started trawling through this thread expecting tits but now after reading through all ^that^ you've managed to become a real person in my eyes, and not just a mamary gland supporter. Damn you!

I can't really answer that, but I do know that the douchebags I'm attracted to are usually into the same things as me. and are more accepting about my faults because they have many? I guess you'd have to define douchebag and decent, honest guy for me because the douchebags I meet are not some loud mouth frat boys in a bar. They are usually the ones that like to dabble, like I do and do exciting/dangerous things, and that leads to problems. A decent guy would probably avoid me because he's more turned on by a girl who does not do drugs at all, is ambitious career-wise rather than arsty-fartsy or spontaneous.
This is one serious skewed ass view of people you have right here. #27 is right, pidgeonholing is bad...I'm a decent, honest, sentimental, spontaneous, crazy fun loving muppet of a guy,and I'm not a complete douche like the type of guys you seem to be going for.In my experience, the more "nice guy" type is equally as up for exploration and doing spontaneous things as the wanker (more in fact,as they'll be trying to make an effort with you 'cos they care) and also ou and they will get more out of it as they tend to be deeper about stuff, rather than just "lol!koolz!that r awesome!Let's fuck". Unfortunately,a lot of decent, intelligent, emotional guys become completely introverted in responce to this society,so you never really notice them.I think it's just a defence mechanism.
I know,'cos I was one for many a year, until I thought fuck it and am now as extroverted as they come. But the quieter, more reflective guy has so much more to offer that the douchebag tool. Also, don't count out the attractive, assertve male thing-give them a chance, let them feel comfortable, and you'll be amazed who these people really are!
Hell, half the cool guys on the Shroomery are probably exactly this.

This could be why they're assholes, but I guess it also explains why I'm attracted to them - they're the ones that can offer me protection should shit ever hit the fan, because they've been there and gone through it. Ugh, there's the primal crap again.
Again, here's one mother of an assumption! My friend and I have a theory, that really decent people are born out of suffering-they've gone through crap, learnt what pain is and learnt from that what true empathy is. Just because the doucebag has had some hard times,it's no excuse for being a douchbag-that's how they've chosen to react to it.The nice guy has chosen to learn and be a better person from it. Also,in this case, the nice is the one who will help you through bad times-he has the experience, the sensetivity and most important, the will. The doucebag may have experience, but they won't want to help you-they're a douchebag!!
Seriously,I couldve gone either way as a nipper-I had both sides in me.But I hard some shitty hard times as a kid,and it taught me a lot...plus,I decided I didn't want to be the arrogant bastard i had the capacity for-trying my damndest to be a decent guy seemed better.
Nice guys ftw!
But that leads me onto

aaaaaannnd that's presuming that people can ever really change in the first place.
pssst... that doesn't happen. the core of a person, that which makes them them, that doesn't change. details come and go, grow and fall, but the most basic characteristics? that doesn't change. meet a friend after 20 years and you might not know them, but the central details you could give about their personality 20 years ago will still be true. Maybe they're not THAT crazy anymore, but I bet they still laugh at the old stories and have a wistful look in their eye. They're still the same nut, just older.
Do you really think that?I've always prided myself on being able to change, rationally, who and what I am;predjudices, opinions, preconceptions, character flaws, poor impulses, the works. It's how I live-Im trying to construct the person I want to be.It's easier now, hard to get started.A friend and I often discuss this process as a concept, and he is more skeptical-he also claims it can't be done, and I'm just a freak. But I met an old schoolmate a few months back and,as far as I could see, acted in ways unthinkable to the shy, fat, introverted little bugger I used to be. His comment? "You haven't changed, have you?" Threw me,that.Either a)I have changed and he saw me as he expected to b)You're right and I haven't-my core is the same or c)I was just so comfy with him as a friend back in school,I felt able to be more confident than I thought..
