My first gilled mushroom find after winter
    #12259767 -

Fist off I'd like to apologise for the cell phone pics.I'll have a decent camera very soon.I had to get some pics of these little guys while they are still around.
Psilocybe montana
The spore print was purple.

I have a question for the experts...Is this now called Deconica montana???

Cooool  The top pics have a galerina look but the bottom pics look all thick and look like psilocybe. They resemble P. Coprophila (or w.e it was they changed that to)

Oh yeah I just meant from a top view they looked galerina-ish and psilocybe from the bottom.

Doesn't Deconica Coprophila have trace/miniscule amounts of psilocybin? So just because it doesn't have enough to cause side effects it isn't a Psilocybe? Hmmmm  :shakingfist:

I could see how they could pass for Galerina just by looking at them from above.

None of the Deconica species contain psilocin nor psilocybin.
Both species should be in Deconica.
D. coprophila is coprophilous (as the name suggests), meaning it grows from dung.
These do look like D. montana, which fruit among moss and on wood.

Thanx for clearing that up CC.I'm getting a good digital camera this Friday and I'm hoping to get some nice macro shots of them if they hang around and I think they will cause it's getting colder and wetter.
Once the warmer weather comes and the grass turns green their gone.
They have been growing behind behind my work in our special smoking area for over 10 years now.

no ill effects ever, there an iffy mushroom, there are lots of people in my area who eat them still, and think verpas are poisonous no matter what i share, this includes my mother.....
gyros are a tasty beefy like mushroom, often called beefsteaks around mich, this is where i believe things got mixed up, there is an edible called "beefsteak" but it's not a gyro, its Fistulina hepatica, well some one misidentified a gyro as a beefsteak, and told there family, witch that family bred with maybe another??? and became the state of mich, as for the verpas, people hear that "false morels" are poisionus, and assume the verpa is that "false morel".., but really the "false morel" is the gyro.

luckly my wife and i were not part of this family that became mich

oh yeah gyros can be "properly prepared" by boiling for 15mins but they release a toxic gas so a well ventilated area is necessary, though i wouldn't recommend eating them at all.
funny thing is there are only 3 basic mushrooms that grow from dirt in early spring in mich, the gyro, verpa and morel.. i dont see how anyone could mix them up, i figured it out when i picked up a audobon book when i was 1o...
