Yep, boletes get freakin huge!! I found one this year that was a foot and a half in diameter, it was a giant, and it stained blue as hell, especially the yellow pores, we played a few games of tic-tac-toe on the yellow pores it was so godamn big :)

There are a few. Ones I've seen include King Bolete (B. edulis), Giant Clitocybe (C. gigantea), and Giant Puffball (Calvatia gigantea and/or C. booniana). The first two species can get up to 18" cap diameter & over a foot tall; the puffballs I found were soccer-ball sized but apparently these species can get up to 3' diameter & be mistaken (by the nearsighted, from a distance) for sheep! Biggest gilled mushroom I ever saw a picture of was a species (sorry, don't recall the name) cultivated by S. American leaf-cutting ants. These normally don't get to fruit--the ants cultivate the mycelia & feed on the immature fruiting bodies--but in this case the ant hill had been dug open by some animal & the cap matured to over 2 feet diameter. The specimen reportedly weighed over 30 pounds! Wine Caps (Stropharia rugoso-annulata) and Shaggy Parasols (Lepiota rachodes) can also get quite large--8-10" cap diameter. These are both good edibles which grow in my compost pile; the smaller, immature specimens are the best for cooking. The ones you found sound like the Lepiotas--scaly cap w/ an umbo (nipple) in the center. These should have white gills & spores, & the tough, fibrous stem should discolor dark reddish brown when you cut thru it w/ a knife. If these features fit, this is a VERY good edible. Looking forward to pics!

right on thanks for the info woodsman!!! :) the stem has bruised a reddish color. the thing about the umbo is that is has a flower shaped dark brown thing?! it does have a scaly cap . so maybe it is a Lepiota. thanks woodsman i am gonna search the web for a pic and see if this is what it is.:) hopefully the pics will come soon too.

There is a type of polypore that averages a couple feet long.. its called the "Artists Polypore", because there is a white underneath that stains darker when you touch it

That's some large oysters indeed! Almost twice as large as this thread is old.
I mean it was even started by psylosymon from his first user account, that is like back in Abe Lincoln's days...

Biggest mushroom I've found is this Amanita:

In the second pic, you can see it in the distance near the center of the pic.
Second biggest is this Bolete:
