Re: Messianic Age: A bunch of bullshit? [Re: Huehuecoyotl]

We could go camping every once in a while and practice our survival skills.

survival mechanisms in our minds? like blaming America for having to live in a shack?

I think the pessimism is over compensating for the naive optimism.

In the history of humanity we've always been close to the edge when it comes to survival - food shortages, disease, and fighting for resources some of the chief concerns. If technology takes care of food and disease, maybe people will at least chill out a little more.

People won't chill, they'll get bored stiff. They mostly are now.

Actually I'm pretty sure the chances are about the same as they where for this one.

The only place this universe has to go is right back where it started.

We are not the universe.

Depends on what you mean by "we" and "universe"

In a sense, we are, in a sense, we're not.  I'm always one to go with "are" instead of "are not"

In the Messianic Age… After much leisure and eons of harmony the people spoke out again. We very much would like to eat that apple again, at least one more time; we have lost contact with the memory of what it is like to really feel ups and downs. We grow tired of your glory lord, though we never thought this moment would come to us here – from earth. Shall you let us betray you again god? We have come to realize that deep down we relish the cycle we once knew. Let us go again. Call us cheeky sadists if you must, be we really must be gone.

Actually, he does

How do we expect experiential existence to warrant delight in timeless experience of undramatic, sterile, lovey dove'y harmony? Is it a kind of sad reality that we must have some violence on the side here and there?

How do we at the least fight off boredom? Where is the line drawn when we butt heads as individuals?

if you accept heaven as a reality you must accept that it is complete in joy including the inability to become bored

If you think we've lost contact with ups and downs I think you need to lay off the drugs
and get your ass out more. You live on the most violent planet in the solar system. People are blowing each other up, eating,
raping, skinning and torturing each other. Men are always consciously and subconsciously planning murders and revenge,
discovering new dimensions and depths to malice and ill-will. Since we left the
savanna and the caves we've become increasingly more efficient and sophisticated
at oppressing and torturing other men. Every minute someone's discovering profound joy,
having an orgasm, reacquainting themself with the rich taste of fruit, getting blissful, looking with happiness on friends and family,
discovering a new perspective, uncovering a moment of wonder of truth, falling love, gaining insight into salvation...

I can only assume you are addressing me, and I would say that I was imagining and addressing a state of utopia, in particular using the religious traditions conception of it. Of a state without war and conflict, stealing, lying, etc etc etc. I think our animalistic mental state has learned to relish the bloody drama to an extent... or that is, would we miss the risky'ness of life? I think some of us would, and people lash out in well established and developed nations. People like to butt heads it seems to me, people like to risk things, etc etc....

But that isnt to say that we couldnt just "get along" and respect one another... Well, I say humanity's cup has overflown for QUITE some time for that to be at all realistic, we need some psychological "evolution" and some massive die offs (or God needs to damn the sinners) to do that. But I dont think we are breeding correctly enough for that really heh... Though even then  how long would it take before boredom gets insidious? Especially if you are religious and try to mix in eternal life.

We sure do love the drama of violence, we love the emotions of dangerous things happening. We love watching violent movies and even kind of get a sadistic pleasure by hearing about violent events in the news, its rouses the heart in an odd way. I am just saying... Even if you get saddened by the violence I think many still kind of find it inflaming and thus kind of delightful.

WHY CANT WE JUST ADMIT IT

Sorry if I am too pessimistic, this isnt to say one couldnt try to be a force for the good and the just - at all - but who or what do we really point the finger at in the end?! :crazy2:

our current bodies and minds love chaos and drama

our spirits will be transformed and we will be given a new perfect body before entering into eternity

no one who is in heaven will ever miss being here

every moment will be better then the last

that much I know but beyond that its hard to imagine the eternal existence but I know it will be the epitome of both excitement and peace and relaxation at the same time

we will be without boundaries and borders and yet will never again crave anything which leads to death
