advice for interview at top firm?
    #11735682 -

a friend of mine is hooking me up with an interview in the city at a top banking firm...  ive never been a business type of person, but if i  can get hooked up with this job, i could move out to the city (out of my house), get free health care/insurance and rake in the loot...

i'm just wondering if anybody can give me advice on how to make a good impression?

maybe taking a benzo the night before could be a good move... obviously dress nice.  get a good sleep the night before.  i dont know shit about this kind of industry ,  but for an oppurtunity like this i think it could be smart to try to nail this...  it isnt really a serious interview but if it turns out well im sure i could be considered for some kind of job..  i should probably try to think of what type i would be interested in beforehand....

Any ideas would be solid!  :discorex:  :snowman:

~~I originally posted this in the anon forum so here's anon 2 and 3's reply

why the annon post?.
But yes it sounds like you have it down, Just remember that employers are always considering whats in it for them/ how you will benefit the company.
Dont be affraid to up sell yourself and be open to new ways of looking at things.

But at the same time dont be arrogant

anon3:
Just stare at the interviewer a lot. :FattyNoneck: The idea is to scare the shit out of him/her. Don't talk very much. Use like one or two word sentences and sentences with violent subliminal messages.

it isn't really an official interview though, more that i am checking it out and if something clicks or i sound good, a job opportunity is very possible...

the drug test can be a tricky one... if i got an offer id still have some time cause im signed up next semester of college so i could have time to stop blazing or figure out a way to cheat the tests, altho id bet they use good ones  :crankey:

thanks illume

Go to some career websites and they will have advice for your interviews. I'm a factory worker and many of us on the shroomery are your down to earth kind of guys  I hope the best for you on this and do every thing you can to get it and keep it. Good jobs are hard to find, I need one and can't. Good luck

You better hope they don't give you a hair follicle test, especially since they're paying for your insurance. Good luck man.

1.) Learn as much about the company as possible
2.) Get a short haircut
3.) Wear nice slacks, button up shirt, and blazer.
4.) Have a good handshake.  That shit is more important than you'd think
5.) Know why you'd be an asset to the company, so that you can sincerely convince them

Research a realistic pay rate at salary.com or monster. It's best to not to be pressured into discussing pay, but that way if they do get you to you can give a very realistic number.

Show up a bit early, don't smell like cigarettes, kill your cell phone. Get some practice interview questions and go over them beforehand (such as http://www.collegegrad.com/jobsearch/Mastering-the-Interview/Fifty-Standard-Interview-Questions/).

Give a firm handshake, send a personalized thank you letter.

Take a professionally looking (leather) binder with a notepad in it.  Make it look like it has more than just a blank pad inside.  Have pre written questions and at the right moment ask "do you mind if I ask you a couple questions I wrote down?"  Also, take notes after asking if it bothers the interviewer.  Don't be fake either, because the people in even the highest straight professions are still normal people.  They will like to see a little personality.  Good luck

I would read up on commonly asked questions, and have your answers ready.  Pausing and awkward silences will kill you so talk through them.  If the interviewer is just sitting there and looking over your resume' try and point out the highlights and how they could be applied to the position.  If everything is going swimmingly through the interview and they ask you at the end if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask "When can I start?!"

i gotta ask one more thing...  What type of questions should I ask?

off the top of my head, ill probably ask about about college classes are good for the future, what can i do now to help me get the job when i graduate,  What are the possible career paths that I can take and someone gave me this one-knowing what you know now what advice can you give me that you would have wanted to know when you were in my position....

anybody got ideas?  really ill just have to go with the flow but i personally haven't been in a business environment in a while, but it is in nyc so im sure theres constant shit going on which makes it more chill, keeps your mind flowing when you're around so many things going on:leaf:

Those questions sound good.

Whatever questions you ask, just make sure they are open-ended.  Begin them with words like who, how, why, when, where.  This makes the interviewer feel like you have thought about what you are doing and impresses him/her with your level of initiative.  Or something like that.  Make sure that you premeditate this a little, but don't fall into the trap of just reading from a prepared script.
